I don't think we understand what "pro-poor" means. When we hear politicians say "pro-poor", we tend to think that they refer to policies that help the poor out to become better off. That's not what it means. "Pro-poor" means the politicians like people being poor and they want policies that will ensure more people are poor.

Malema's biggest problem is that he isn't what he tries to project he is. Here's a guy who keeps telling everyone how is the man of the people, yet time after time he is caught taking the people's money for himself. After a while, people will stop believing the guy who is telling them not to believe their lying eyes.
