#TradWives observes a new women's movement emerging in the USA focused on reverting to the values of traditional housewives of the 50s and early 60s, through the story of a Chicago divorcée.

Jennifer is a super-fan of 'Fascinating Womanhood' by Helen Andelin, an international best-seller in 1963 which is the bible of the movement. She travels to Springfield, Missouri to assist the author's daughter, Dixie, who is about to publish a follow-up book for the current generation of women.

  • I am confused by this documentary. It doesn't tell us anything about the "Trad Wives" movement, what it is, what it teaches etc. This feels like an odd collection of clips, spliced together, with no real point to it?

Im all for being a stay at home mom, even tho i work now we're not rich enough to not work XD BUT putting down other womans way of life for not making the same choices is down right pathetic almost makes it seem like and envy move? Live your way of life but dont poke your neck at others way of living

There's nothing wrong with being a traditional, feminine woman but there's also a fine line between losing yourself to an unattainable image of what a woman should be. She doesn't seem like she lives a well rounded life and seems stuck in the mindset that there can only be one type of woman that men will love and appreciate. You can be womanly and still be strong with your own interests and you can watch sports next to your husband without magically growing a beard as well.
  • as long as it doesn't hurt anybody live your life as you wish, but don't condemn others for not complying with your personal standards and ways of life

Wax museums are fun, but decorating your home with wax figures is creepy.

I'm not into fake nails and pouffy hair. I'm more of an eco, organic, back to earth feminine woman.

3 klonopin & 1 rum and Diet coke is a Tuesday night for some women 🤣
  • Should have gotten the perspective of three or four other devotees as opposed to one person dealing her own feelings and baggage .
  • @amadcarrot
Different strokes for different folks, but this made me sad, especially because the lesbian daughter is left to feel like the way she was born was a mistake
  • @willowashe
So... entrenched codependency. Her husband treats her like crap and this seems to be a big joke to him. And my mother, both fiercely independent and yet hopelessly devoted to her husband, would have made sure all of her finger sandwiches were the same size and shape. She’d never serve those misshapen monstrosities.

Actually , if your friends leave you because of your positive passion , the we’re not true friends . I think it’s awesome that you’re passion has your focus ! Go girl !
  • @aussiejubes
Hahaha she's not great at taking instructions from men that aren't her husband. Wow those men were all over the place when they were barking orders & MIA when the lifting needed doing. Not very #trad.

"It makes them feel uncomfortable to be around a competent woman". LOL so? Be uncomfortable.

Ironically, the men don't come across as exceptionally masculine despite the aim of the exercise. I would have imagined them involving themselves with activities other than stickers and decorations. The women just come across as pathetic unhappy individuals seeking relevance in middle age - almost like a mid life crisis. It only reinforces a belief I have long held, demeaning yourself for the exhaultation of another leads to profound unhappiness. I sincerely hope these women find love and acceptance internally so that they realize their own worth and understand that it is not an external reward.

I'm confused... Why are there so many women in pants?! I thought this was about recalling and restoring traditional gender roles (They complain about skinny pants/jeans being too feminine... ) In the 50s(and prior-excluding WW2) any "good wife" would not wear pants...

This is my question to all those who comment negatively on this doc- why do we in America celebrate someone for “coming out of the closet” as becoming fully themselves, yet we can’t celebrate someone else for fully doing what they want to do if it aligns with a more traditional value system? These women feel fulfilled doing these things. So let them. Why not. Let people be who and what they want. We all make up a vast spectrum of society and we all need each other to exist to our fullest.

I am all man and I love my wife and kids. I don't want my wife to be a slave and do everything. We work together as a team and the same for our kids. I do things my wife cannot do and if I cannot do the things to do, I'll hire somebody to do it lol.
  • @finehomemadewine
He wanted to take care of his kids permanently to avoid paying child support - sure... ...Than she sees her daughter after a long time and makes her cry criticizing the basis of her existence...
  • This wasn’t so much about “tradwives” as it was about this one woman’s sad, misguided attempt at living an antiquated lifestyle. @RealStories, WTF???
  • @woodwoman9130
The big lady with big yellow hair obviously has some problem with insecurities
