My great uncle Oliver Billingham was in territorials..and south staffs reg, private 8419..in BEF. He was missing in action after the Loos battle..october 1915. Never found him. He went over to france aug 1915...less than 3 month he was missing in action. So proud of him..he is not on any remembrance stone in cradley heath..only in Loos.

I'm from Walsall but live Amblecote. Walk into Stourbridge there is a church before the town centre. From the road can be seen a grave stone. Young man is remembered, died Ypres. Same regiment, South Staffs Yeomanry, as my grand dad, about same age. I often look across when passing thinking did this lad know my grand dad. My grand dad survived and i am here to type this. Grand dad also served in WW2.
  • Great video. My great grandad lived at Campbell street Brockmoor, fought and was injured in world war one. He was born in 1890 He would of been about 24 when the war broke out I wonder if he was one of those that marched to walsall that day.

What an amazing video, brilliantly edited, well done, i'm so looking forward to meeting ya, Very interesting, never knew about the drill hall in Pearson street near the Asda. Couldn't imagine walking all the way to Walsall, knowing most would never return...! Take care,

Amazing the history around you. I live in Dennis Hall and my bus. partners grand parents are Tinsley, i think chain makers, well known around here. I keep meaning to have a look up by the canon near the church yard.

  • My profile picture is my Great Grandmother's photo that was in my Great Grandad's wallet throughout the 1st World War. Luckily he came back! Unfortunately I can't say to him that anything has changed at this moment in time. They were living at Chapel Street Lye. Proud of My Black Country Roots.❤
