Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back (1980) film analysis! Why do Star Wars diehards consider The Empire Strikes Back to be the best Star Wars film, and what production secrets give Empire layers upon layers of hidden meaning? In this special #Wookieeleaks Star Wars rewatch series, Erik Voss turns to the darker second installment, in which Darth Vader reveals himself as Luke's father, Yoda reveals himself as more than an annoying jerk, and Boba Fett still comes off as a badass. How did director Irvin Kershner change the character dynamics among Han Solo, Leia, and Luke Skywalker to give the Star Wars franchise the emotional gravity to last decades? What subtle camerawork elevates the terror of Darth Vader? What is the real-world philosophical origin of Yoda's wisdom? And how does the Wampa of Hoth foreshadow the entire plot of the film?

I believe Luke SkyWalker’s original line was “Maclunky” ,if I’m not mistaken

Luke was gonna tell Han “I love you.” but he knew Han would reply “I know.” so he stopped short.

Yoda: There is another. Me: Another baby of your species born at the same time as Anakin Skywalker? Okay.

I will NEVER forget how completely stunned and floored I was when Vader told Luke he was his father. I was in a little country movie theater with only 1 screen with every kid I knew were there watching it... was the greatest cinematic moment I have ever experienced. I've had the blessing of seeing every single Star Wars movie that has been released on the big screen, in person, on release day. Keep up the great work!

Han Solo was originally supposed to say “I love you too”

Peter Parker absolutely knows the name of his Star Wars references, but he's clever enough to realize that the Avengers likely don't. He'd just waste time if he had to explain what AT-AT and Hoth were.

By far, the best Star Wars movie. Every second of this movie is fantastic. As a kid, the Hoth scenes were what I loved the most.
  • Watching those 2 kids react to the "I am your father" scene was so damn wholesome but unfortunately for me I also knew about Vader being his father before watching the movies as it was a popular pop culture reference so i never got the same shocked feeling as them and I really wish I did.

you missed that Chewie said, "but you are related" when Leia kissed Luke

I love that we get to see the “no disintegrations” line imagined in Chapter 2 of The Mandalorian when he blows up those Jawas!
  • I always felt that Luke's failure in the cave was giving in to his feelings, and the Dark Side, striking out of fear and anger, echoed by Yoda's warnings about the Path to the Dark Side.

Luke: hey Han sorry but I think Leia is into me
