3 Phase Axial Flux Generator DIY

Published 2012-12-07
This is my teams generator that we hand built for power class. It can be operated with wind or water. It is a 3 phase axial flux generator. It Consists of 24 neodymium magnets with 9 coils in a 3 phase wye configuration. Each 3rd coil is connected in series. Hand spinning the generator with an oscilloscope we were generating 40V peak to peak. This bad boy can definitely power a lot more loads. We can get more power out of the generator if our airgap was less between both rotors. The magnets on both plates are facing each other with opposite poles. Each plate has alternating magnets NSNSNS etc.. and the Other Plate is SNSNSNS etc.. to complete the lines of flux to get max power.

Overall, this is a good project and hopefully this would spark good ideas for you future engineering students taking power :)
