the concept of having some 3D and some 2D characters was done extremely well in the amazing world of gumball. but this. this is something else.

The studio behind Ex Arm once had to put out a statement denying that the anime was a front for money laundering, that's how bad it got. And the trailer boasted that it was "declaring war on all of the Sci-Fi series around the world". Not SF anime, ALL sci-fi series. Good job CrunchyRoll.
  • “It’s basically like watching a Doctor Seuss book in a PowerPoint presentation” you are a true poet with your words Charlie.

My heart sunk a little when I heard the villain speak, he's played by Takaya Kuroda (best known as Kazuma Kiryu) I really hope that Kuroda got a decent paycheck to be a part of this, his performance in Yakuza is legendary.
  • Imagine putting your heart and soul into a manga, writing the perfect story you’ve been developing for years. Then a company is like “yo let’s make it an anime”. Your heart flutters, joy bubbling over as you stay up at night imagining all the cool moments you envisioned fully animated and colored. Then it comes out like EX-Arm

Idk. The hero having internal conflict about saving a damsel and finally, after overcoming his self preservation getting fucking WRECKED by a truck is unexpected comedy gold.

Interviewee, Yoshikatsu Kimura: "I have no experience animating whatsoever. I don't know what anime is. I kind of just walked into this building because I needed to use the bathroom. Honestly if you hire me I will fill my entire staff with random people I know that have no idea what they are doing." Crunchyroll: "Say no more. You're hired!"

The fact that the manga was good enough to be recommended by the author of Hunter x Hunter, literally one of the greatest shonen manga of all time, and they still botched an adaptation with that good of a source material is WILD 😭😭
  • @BaskBall2
If he’s 3D and everyone else is 2D then anyone that’s 2D would see him as some unbelievable eldritch horror since they couldn’t comprehend a being on a higher dimensional level

Charlie I gotta say, look at the manga panels for EX-ARM. It's truly disgusting how they completely betrayed the artists vision. The manga's visual beauty vs the anime's horribly done sweatshop rushed 3D trash will truly take you aback.

i feel bad for the voice actors and actresses who did a good job dubbing this show. i wouldve refused if I see this nightmare
  • Ex-Arm is truly one of the animes ever made. It has characters, a plot and an OST. It was directed by a director and written by a writer. The characters were played by voice actors and the show was animated by an animation studio. If I had to rate it, I would rate it a 1 ex-armillion /10
  • @rs_kira5710
You know it’s gonna be bad when Charlie doesn’t even make a sarcastic joke about it being good
  • @crisptomato9495
I used to be a firm believer in “good writing can fix bad art” but this has proved me wrong.
  • @BillytheCorgi
"It was a crunchy roll original" is literally all you had to say, lmao. Have they had a good exclusive anime? In fairness, I guess I've only heard of 2, this one and High Guardian Spice, but damn, so far they're batting 0.
  • Man this show makes rwbys first season animation look good, i didn’t even think it was possible.
  • Makes Berserk 2016/2017 look like a visual masterpiece. I'll never be ungrateful again.
  • @mattguy1773
It makes me so sad that many animators with talent wasted their time on EX arm
  • @kamakachow1
I just read the manga and Charlie's guess that the truck was some kind of time travel assassination is actually super spot-on. It's hinted in that same panel that the driver was somehow himself from the future given that he had a picture he took with his brother's gf on the dash. This is wild and I can't believe this manga wasn't done any justice lmao
  • As an animator, I will 100% be adding "spagetification" into my wheelhouse of terminology
