Mental Illness: What You See / What You Don't See

Publicado 2012-12-14
PLEASE READ BELOW:

1 in 5 Canadians will suffer from mental illness at some point in their lifetimes.
The other 4 will have a friend, family member or colleague who will.

The Neinstein Personal Injury Lawyers family wanted to do something to help raise awareness for this very important cause. Remembering how important it is to reflect on all that we have to be thankful for, we made this video to offer a moment's thought for those for whom every day is struggle.

We are proud to support the efforts of the Put Up Your Dukes Foundation, an organization started by a valued member of Neinstein Personal Injury Lawyers firm.

We encourage you to share this video and consider donating to this worthwhile cause.

  • This is amazing, and also incredibly sad, because we're in the 21st century and there is still so much stigma surrounding mental illness.

"It feels like I am underwater, drowning." That's kind of how I have described it to people close to me. You are underwater, you can not draw a breath. All you can do is see the sun rippling above you and watch as it gets smaller and smaller, darker and darker, until there is nothing left to hope for.

People need to understand that mental illness is real and not something you can get over. You wouldn't tell someone with cancer to just "get over it".

It sucks how people start distancing themselves from you once they realize you're depressed, or you've attempted suicide

Sometimes, it's amazing to watch videos like these. I've been silent about my depression for so long and hearing that someone else is going through the exact same thing… it's helpful, to say the absolute least.

I have anxiety and this hits really close to home. I cry every time I watch it because I can relate to so much of it. It feels good to know that other people know how I feel sometimes.
  • @TheFelaa
I've had depression, anxiety, and borderline for the past 2,5/3 years and I wish my family would understand this

Woah this video is so powerful. Raising awareness to mental health issues is incredibly important and it's something I'm passionate about and something I try to do through my videos on youtube. You should never be ashamed for admitting you need help, in fact admitting you need help makes you that much stronger. Thank you for posting this video :)
  • I saw this at school, and it really got to me considering I know exactly what it's like. People will watch it and say "I know this already" or some shit, but really you don't. You don't know until you've experienced it - and you really don't want to.

I will be showing this video during a training session at The Dominion Theatre in London. It's a great resource to use. Thank you.

The best video on depression that I have seen in a long while.  Every time I watch, it still brings tears to my eyes.
  • @drschafer95
This video gave me the strength to reach out and ask for prayers on FB. This could go horribly wrong for me if no one responds or I bring shame to my family.
  • @kwstevens
Thanks for the morning cry. Lots of love to those dealing with the black dog and those that love and support them.

I am doing a Social Justice math lesson with my class. I am also their health teacher. I have decided to use this video as a "minds on" discussion. We have had some discussion about mental illness and I think they will find the message in this video very powerful. I have shared it with my colleagues, hopefully we can help our students, our future generation, be more aware and empathetic towards mental illness.

STILL A FIGHTER SINCE 2007 !!!! i will never give up depression is a soul cancer !!!
  • I really love this video! I suffer from a lot of mental health issues. One thing I have that a lot of people don't understand is psychiatric seizures they may caused by severe PTSD and not medical but they are still real!
  • This was really empowering. People don’t want to see beyond or even want to know at all. In Nigeria, talks about mental health issues are not even taken seriously. People see me as a smart , beautiful, jovial lady and see my disorder as a flaw or a divine punishment. But I speak up every chance I get against the stigma because if we don’t who will. Thanks for this wonderful video🙏🏽🙏🏽
