the original character designer for the Digimon franchise cited Spawn and other 90's comics as inspiration for the first batch of creatures as they were trying to differentiate themselves from other popular monster collecting franchises

Funnily enough while reading the 300 storyline, I noticed Todd not only forgot K7-Leetha's name, but that she's a parasite, not a symbiote.

Spawn needs another movie or a tvshow.

Excellent video, bud! The reason Todd McFarlane was writing as "Will Carlton" was created as a test to see the fan reception and sales for Spawn's "new" writer without McFarlane's name attached to the comic. There were mixed reactions among fans, readers were saying they liked Carlton's writing and others preferred McFarlane. But Todd McFarlane heard from comic retailers that sales were down, so he "returned" in Spawn #216.

Spawn is an amazing character, but visually didn't come into his own until Greg Capullo started penciling him.

"Kids Like Chains" is now the name of a kickass Substack from Danny Cates, Ryan Ottley, and four or five other artists.

Spawn is a really interesting character in my opinion

You cannot make me learn things about Spawn. I refuse.
  • You'd be amazed at the number of times Todd took ideas from the letter pages of Spawn. Blood Fued definitely originated from a fan letter, even though Moore wrote the story.

The record for longest "Creator Owned" comic is fine, but Dave Sim wrote and penciled art (all of it, except for the ridiculously detailed Gerhard backgrounds) to all 300 of those issues of Cerebus.

I did know much about this stuff, but I was a Spawn reader on and off since the start through most of the 90's. The Tony Twist thing was known to me, but also, there's the reason behind why Chapel was no longer Al Simmons' killer later on in continuity or the movie. You might've hit on it in another video, but McFarlane danced around a lot of land mines in making this landmark character and his lore.

I didn't know a few of these - thank you! I found it particularly interesting seeing the initial Spawn drawings from McFarlane's teenage years. They feel like they were heavily inspired by the stuff Jim Starlin was doing at the time.

I always look forward to a Spawn video!

The Gin and Beetlejuice line was funnier than it should have been.

You make some of the best comic videos. You just fall out of my algorithm between releases. I just hit the bell
