Fallout New Vegas and San Andreas represented watermark games that people loved in the industry. Now we have trash like the Saints Row reboot. What changed?

Black woman here who's also a console gamer. I agree with you. I don't play games to be cuddled. I play to have fun and be whatever I want in my games for the hell of it. Doesn't mean I go dreaming about doing them irl. The fiction begins and ends with the game. When I shut it off, I don't think about it beyond the next time I feel like playing it. I therefore don't find them offensive either. I was mad when the COD remake removed the No Russian mission. Spineless trash. I will say that I don't care about how hot the women are. I care far more how much western mainstream media write women to be unlikable yet put on a pedestal for simply being women. No, I want my fiction girls to feel like people, not annoying girl boss archtypes. It also ignores the fact that women are just as diverse as men in their personalities and as to promote just one type of women is a disservice to the process of writing them. Which really shouldn't be so difficult. That also goes for their appearance. It's ironic that covering them up is said to be progressive when it's far more conservative and puritan. IMO making them attractive should be balanced more instead of going from one extreme to another, considering how women are. There's nothing wrong with having a pretty playboy model or something next to, IDK, someone like Abby in the same game. It's annoying that the latter is being seen as the correct way and the former is demonized. And even if a game has nothing but hot babes strutting around, it should be fine anyway. It's not offensive. Considering that there are women IRL who like to be skimpy or feminine or wear pink or have long hair, and are conventionally attractive, I find it offensive to demonize them when they are depicted in media. Mortal Kombat for example shouldn't be so sanctimonous in covering up its women when it's also the same series where you murder people in ridiculously gorey ways with not a shred of seriousness. Why is a character whose power is to absorb blood through her skin dressed up in a thick jumpsuit and a burka?

Without a little edge, everything has become quite dull.

In their attempts to not offend anyone, they offended me. How ironic.

They want to prevent children from experiencing adult content, but in reality the children already experience adult content everyday by just being next to their parents and watching unfiltered content like youtube, TikTok, etc.

Whats even weirder about the "safe for the whole family" thing is that their attempt at "being edgy" is either sex jokes, or lots of cursing and swearing and f words. Like, what even is the plan here?

A game for everyone is a game for no one.
  • I wouldn't call Fortnite "soft". It's target demographic is young teens, it's not supposed to be super violent, edgy, sexual, etc. I agree with everything else though
  • I feel like rdr2 is a good middle ground for everyone as it can be funny without edgy humor. woman aren’t overly sexual but aren’t ugly. It doesn’t put a big emphasis on rasicam but it also doesn’t treat the 1890’s like a world we’re every race gets along.

I think they are trying to impress investors instead of gamers thats why games now a days going safe play

If you play Minecraft a certain way, it's very edgy
  • I think cyberpunk 2077 is also pretty safe. They could have done so much more with the setting.

Minecraft is a game that comes to mind. For what I know, Mojang doesn't want to add sharks because they don't want to make them too docile nor too hostile, which imo is the dumbest reason ever! I know Notch is in a lot of controversy now but that game was in better state when he was in charge, now everything Mojang adds is just safe boring stuff. If that game came out today, you wouldn't be able to kill pigs, and spiders wouldn't even exist. You don't want people to kill spiders right? Those poor creatures! I hate modern games.

“When did games become so soft?” Short answer: When the West became soft

You don't want to get political but it's literally because of political reasons that these unwanted changes happen, so its kinda unavoidable.

My biggest problem is the invincible NPCs. The player can die at any moment, but some random merchant in Starfield is too important to die.
  • i'm honestly scared for what gta 6 is gonna be considering they removed some old dialog from gta 5 because it's was "offensive"

Minecraft is the most sold games in the market and it is basically a childrens game with no offensive content whatsoever
