In Egypt, the Arab world, and across Africa, everyone knows who Egypt’s greatest-ever player is. Not Mohamed Salah, but Mohamed Aboutrika.

But today, he is in exile and considered an enemy of the state by his own country.

As a kid growing up in Ghana, I absolutely idolized this man, he was brilliant
  • My brother Mostafa Metwally died in Portsaid stadium along with his 71 friends 💔 Abo Trika visited us at home to share these worest moments ever with us... A legend is just not enough for him ❤️

As a Moroccan, and like many Moroccans, I consider Aboutrika the best Arabic football player of all time. His technical skills, movement, dribbling, personality, and attitude both on and off the pitch are phenomenal. If he had chosen to play abroad, I am confident that without a doubt, he would have been one of the best players of all time.
  • @Ptahdaboss
Almost every African knows Aboutrika was the greatest midfielder who never played outside Africa…he was a magician to say the least!!!
  • Aboutrika was regarded highly in Nigeria back then, not sure most of us were aware of his life off the field though (I wasn’t). We had serious appreciation for his achievements in the game. Afcons don’t hit the same these days 🥺
  • @SafwanWaleed
As an Egyptian, thank you very much for doing this video despite its controversy and i can assure you that its going to be removed from egyptian youtube in a couple of days
  • @Hannible
As a Tunisian I can attest that Abutrika remains the most loved football player ever, even more than Mo Salah. He was our nemesis on the field (Tunisian national team and Esperance sportif de Tunis) but after the games we flocked to him for autographs! Let me tell you that Egypt lost a lot of popularity among North African football fans for what they did to him and Al ahla and ultras.... and Egyptian football as a whole. They recovered now somewhat but they're still nowhere near their 2006-2010 level. And for the non Arabs/Africans out there, Egyptians are the sweetest people you'll ever meet. Don't let the actions of politicians cloud your judgement vis-Ă -vis this glorious nation!

There was a time between 2008-2010 when Aboutrika was more famous than the lights of Drogba & Etoó on the African continent. I always wondered what happened to him , all of our football Academy Midfield boys Idolised him so much. Terrible story to a soccer legend... 😢❤😢

as an algerian even though there has been a time where a lot problems happened between us and egypt in football between 2009 and 2011 ,but we always seen aboutrika as a legend and an idol for his stances and have incredible love and admiration for him
  • @tmanreloaded
Aboutrika was that guy! Watching AFCON in 2000s was lit because of his performance for Egypt alongside Zaki and Mido. I (Nigeria) always hated facing them
  • @OmarAly02
I love how you delivered the raw facts despite all the controversial topics touched in the video. Amazing!
  • Im a Nigerian and I swear this man was my football hero growing up 💯
  • @calebvieyra4801
Really really well written and spoken. Very good storytelling, it felt like I was watching a movie

I am 24 and I always say that I fell in love with football because of 2 players. Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Abutreika. It is a big loss for football that this guy didn’t play in europe at the highest level so more people can enjoy his magic. Forget about all his trophies, goals and many great moments, you just have to watch Egypt vs Brazil in the 2009 confederations cup. Against the very best this guy dominated the midfield and dropped an all timer that reminds me of Zidane’s performance against brazl in 2006. Legend🫡 El Magicooo ❤️❤️
  • @102030mohamed
The amount of research went into this is admirable. Well spoken and narrated.
  • @ZoogaZig
I am genuinely impressed with how you covered this topic. While I am an Egyptian--and a football fanatic--I am also a legal academic and found this very well done. This is why Tifo is so well respected, please keep it up. (Do more AC Milan content, please? Lol)
  • @Villainous98
This the type of Videos that made and still make Tifo stand out, Well done
  • @gmunna704
Aboutrika was the reason I cried numerous times.. what a player..
  • @donaldleroi9544
Aboutrika led Egypt to their last AFCON which was hosted in my country Ghana in 2008. It was surreal at such a young age to watch his talent
