Kenwood TH-D75 - detailed report - Exclusive from Japan!

I had the opportunity to see the new Kenwood TH-D75 from Kenwood. Mr. Hiroshi Nakamura, JH4OWG gave me a full walkthrough on the radio with American firmware which showed the menus in English along with English voice prompts.

I also had a talk with Mr. Suzuki, who wears a lot of hats - Director of the Board, Senior Managing Executive Officer, COO Safety & Security Sector, Head of Supply Chain Management (SCM) Reform. He gave me a bit of insight into Kenwood's re-entry into the amateur market. Exciting times ahead!!!

I am so impressed that he insisted on demonstrating the increased voice guidance! Thank you Kenwood!
  • @DL2SDR
Why don't they add a waterfall spectrum display option like Icom does? It's so useful!

Ria, you are putting in so much work on this trip. I thank you, and I'm sure you are making hams everywhere all giddy with this information.

Clarification: JARL only approves D-STAR as the digital voice repeater protocol (no C4FM repeater in Japan is licensed), and JARL mandates all D-STAR users in Japan to register their contact details (mailing address, phone number, and name) to use their repeater network. The radio authority in Japan only licenses repeater stations to JARL (since 1982). So that's why D-STAR is so big in Japan; it's subsidized by JARL. BTW welcome to Japan Ria! :)

Wow! Expansion of voice prompts. That brief tour suggests that the voice prompts are very comprehensive. So happy to see Kenwood continues to stand behind the blind and VI ham community, whether by accident or design.

  • Kenwood gear is always going to be worth waiting for. Good to see the QRZ hysterics about them leaving the market proving to be nonsense.
