I bought a BAOFENG from TEMU so you don't have to.

I bought these from Temu.com for $50 and tested them. Some pretty interesting results.

Baofeng is the foundation for new HAMs on a budget. we are fortunate to have them around!
  • UV-5R TIP: Pop off the power/volume knob, remove antenna, use knob to tighten the gold ring on the antenna connection as those are always too loose from the factory.
  • Thanks for checking this radio on Temu! I'm pretty sure folks would have bet money that harmonics would pop out in a Temu radio! Pleasant surprise. 73

My wife loves Temu lol and I got my family 2 of these yesterday with the 49 inch Apree foldable antenna. As a noob in the HAM space and not needing super duper long range I figured this will serve my limited needs well.

I have plenty of Baofeng radios already. I did get a Radtel RT-470X from there that works great.

Great testing setup Ria. I just cant trust Temu's app but they overall seem to be just like another Ali-Express or Banggood.

will you consider doing a test review of the TID H8 radio. 10 watt. Thanks
  • I bought a 2 piece set from Amazon a year or so for around $85. The only difference on mine is the UV-5R8W on the front and inside is identical to yours except mine says UV-5R8W as the model number.
  • The biggest issue I have is those radios have a wide open front end. My Hotspot which runs about around 250 mW on a tiny stubby antenna will knock out the local repeater. That to me is a deal breaker.

Temu seems good for buying in Australia, Great prices, good quality on everything I have bought so far (no radios) and pretty fast freight from China as well. I have heard Do Not user the app on a phone as it asks for to many permissions, I only use the web site myself. 73

I find the Baofeng GT-5R ($26US on Amazon) to be spectrally clean, and a great value. I tested two of them at home, and additionally at the ARRL booth at this years Hamvention. On technical grounds, radios that produce harmonics are "wasting" energy. On ETHICAL grounds, I won't use a radio that may cause harmful interference to others. It also shows that Baofeng CAN play by the rules and deliver a good product, when they want to. Otherwise, I stick with the YIK radios. THAT being said, I am glad to see YIK radios being given some competition to get those prices down, and we are going to see more Chinese radios in the marketplace. It's no different than when the Japanese firms entered the American market now many years ago. And IMO the quality of Chinese products is improving, just as the Japanese products did. 73 DE W8LV BILL

I have bought 3 baofeng from temu so far. A uv-5r and to uv-16's the uv-16 is not even listed on baofengs list of products, so I don't know who actually makes it. All three have worked really well. The receiving capabilities and the sound quality on the UV 16 is killer!

I’m surprised. The Baofeng actually transmits clean on 2 Meters and 440 MHz. Spurious emissions is one of the reasons I’ve never bought a Baofeng. I’ll stick to buying a Yaesu FT-60R. It’s a bit more money but you get a reliable radio that does just about all you need in an HT.
  • @omarb68
Where can one can get a us boafeng?
  • @1OFGODSOWN
I’m just going to stick with my ICOM ID-51a Plus 2 and call it done. I have a couple of Baofengs that have 220 mhz and it’s the only reason I purchased them. The first one back in 2013 at Hamvention and only because ICOM doesn’t make a 220 mhz HT.I Rarely ever use them but I have them if needed. They are nothing to write home about or worthy of bragging about.👍🎙

Those inexpensive one IC radio are great as long as it use antenna came with it. it over load any signal stronger than -40dBm or so. I often drop the radio. US$20 , I can risk it. AG6JU
