General Exterior Pest Control - IMPORTANT! READ THE DESCRIPTION.

An 8.5 minute version of this video is now available by clicking the link below. Not only is it shorter, but it provides more information. I recommend watching the shorter version instead of this one.

Link to shorter version:    • Unbelievable Outside Treatment of You...

How to safely treat the exterior of your home for pests, such as roaches, ants, spiders, etc., for a fraction of the cost of hiring a professional pest control company. Do it yourself and save hundreds of dollars.

I did not mention this in the video, but you should do the initial treatment with Taurus SC and then use Talstar P every three months after that. If you like, you can use Bifen IT, instead of the Talstar P. The Bifen IT is the same formulation, but is a bit less expensive. The only thing is that the Bifen IT has a slight odor to it, while the Talstar P is pretty much odorless.

The sprayers mentioned in the video are no longer available. Any battery-operated sprayer will work, but the more pressure it has the better. More pressure allows you to reach higher areas and it makes the job go faster, so you get what you pay for.

Please note, sometimes I do not always receive posted questions from viewers or I do receive them, but YouTube does not allow me to respond to them. Sometimes I do not receive a question until six months after it was posted. These glitches do not happen often, but they do happen. It is my policy to respond to all questions within 48 hours, so if you do not hear from me in a couple of days, then please email your question to me at [email protected]. Please do try to post questions in the comment section first and only use the email address if you don't hear from me. The reason for this is that other folks may have the same question, so it would be nice for them to learn as well. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Remember... I will always get back to you.

Good video, very informative Guy. I have been using the Talstar P for years now with great success. I will take your advice though and get some of the Taurus SC to alternate between the two. Thanks!

I've been watching pest control videos for the last 3 days before starting to take care of the pest control at home myself, also in FL (Hernando county) and this has to be the best one I have found by far. Thank you sir! New subscriber 🤙

I’m back watching this video again to refresh my memory from last year because it worked great! It took almost 3 gallons of mixture to do the perimeter of my house and we reduced our big problem to almost zero. I then did my basement along the top of the foundation wall with talstar and that solved our spider problem(my wife is EXTREMELY phobic to spiders). Thank you so much!

Hi Guy. Me again (from Fayetteville). Long note with hopefully will be a short answer. First, I want to express how much I appreciate your YouTube channel. Your insights on DIY pest control are not only incredibly useful but also generous. They’ve definitely helped alleviate my fears about handling pest control myself. I'm reaching out to seek your guidance given my specific issues. After taking in your ideas and methods from your videos, I thought I would share my pest issue details and goals and see if you have additional ideas that aren’t covered in your videos that pertain to my situation. Four years ago, I bought a house built in 2017 in Fayetteville, NC (concrete slab, two-story house, typical subdivision, ½ acre lot, lawn has more weeds than grass). I’m finally turning my attention to lawn care and pest control. Across the lawn, I have fire ants, potential termite sightings in the grass (but no mud tunnels anywhere I can see), and other common pests like mosquitoes, small ants, and spiders, which often make their way indoors. I currently use Ortho fire ant powder to treat fire ant mounds, but new mounds keep popping up. My kitchen needs to be spotlessly clean to keep small ants at bay during warmer months. I also have a 20lb dog who enters/exits the house at will through a doggy door – and he loves to roll in the grass/weeds. Seeing the need to utilize more liquid solutions (rather than continuing to spread granular herbicides and fertilizers), I purchased a battery-powered backpack sprayer to apply herbicides, fertilizers, and pesticides to restore the lawn and create a pest-free environment. I have 32oz of Permethrin SFR (36.8%) (non-returnable) for the pesticide, but I’m willing to purchase something else. Considering the tools and supplies I already have, could you please provide tailored suggestions for managing my pest issues? I’m open to switching pesticides and purchasing equipment. If I had to guess, I think you’ll say to use up the Premethrin I have on hand, spread it across the lawn AND around the perimeter of my house using a hose sprayer (using proper PPE including a respirator among other items). Spray liberally on the ground around the perimeter of the house (and around the perimeter of all hard surfaces) to help the treatment prevent a termite infestation. Then use the backpack sprayer (or a pump sprayer) to treat around doors and windows, spraying eaves and the underside of patio roofs. Be mindful of how much and how you mix the pesticide using the different application methods (see video for reference). Treat every 90 days or as needed when pests appear. Switch to Bifen XTS when Permethrin is gone. You’ll probably reference the standing water points you mentioned, but I do not have standing water on my property. As for the attic and second-story eaves, I’m not sure what you’ll say but I’d love to get your comments. Please note that I’ve been in more than a few hundred attics (at least) and my attic requires Tarzan-like skills I no longer have to traverse. Thank you so much for your time and assistance. Your videos continue to be a fantastic resource, and any additional advice would be greatly appreciated!
  • Thank you, Guy! Your videos are definitely going to be saving my family a fair bit of money at our new home. We had a big issue with black widows and termites at our last house and I had never thought DIY pest control could be as effective as hiring a pro. The benefit for me is more than just the financial savings, but also I can ensure I didn't cut any corners to move on to the next job quicker. Keep it up!

I will be 67 in December 👋 Thanks again for helping me on getting my Masters Degree on termites. And helping me save money I can return a few things !
  • Very helpful and thorough demonstration. I had no idea of all the places insects could enter the home. Thank you. You've pretty much demonstrated what my brother in law (former Terminix supervisor) told me what to do.

Guy, Thank You for the great videos and explaining everything. I moved to Florida 10 years ago from Tennessee and quickly discovered that bug problems are 365 days a year here in Florida. I have been doing my own pest control and just started using the Taurus SC. I purchased the 20 ounce bottle from the Hudson Florida DIY Pest Control on SR 52 and paid $83 for it, I wish I had watched your video earlier and used your links to the products you recommend before buying it at the store. Using your link would have saved me 40%. Thank You for everything you do, I'm happy to be another Subscriber to your channel.

Thank you, Guy, for this video. I really appreciate the time you spend on explaining about pesticides and how to use them. I can't wait to try the trench method.
  • Great Video Sir. 30 minutes, 60 minutes, who cares when the information is valuable. I liked that you took the time to explain the how's and why's of what you were doing. Thank You! much appreciated.
  • I knew this video was a winner in the first minute when he chose quality/substance over quick/fast!

Hi Guy this video just popped up on my feed because I had been searching for pest control companies. Anyway I’m doing this thing myself now and following your lead. Seems simple enough if I follow manufacturer instructions and your suggestions and recommendations for tools/equipment needed. I had already ordered pest control before I saw your video. Here’s my question Can I use Talstar in the end hose sprayer. Thanks for all your good information.
  • Thank you Guy for this informative video. I am about to cancel my Pest Control Service and really wanted to know how to move forward. In order to do it right, it seems to me that I am going to have a challenge. But, with the help of your video, I am going to have to study it.
