In this video, I walk you through the process of changing the ratchet on dt swiss exp hubs where one side is threaded into the hub. DT Swiss 180 and 240 exp hubs use this newer system. You can do this at home, here are the tools and how to.

Part Numbers:
Upgrade Kit: HWYXXX00N9376S - no bearings, there is a version with new bearings if you need them.
Ring Removal Tool: HXTXXX00N8387S
Bearing Tool: HXTXXX00N6106S

I’ve now watched this 17,000 times. Waiting on the bearing tool tool- ended up getting a little press tool for it. Shipping from England is taking forever. I know you used your vice- could a large crescent loosen the fixed ratchet- will the correct tool, of course.

Great job with this video. I’m gonna give this a try soon. Thx again!

Thanks for the explanation! ... Good god, now you need tools for nearly 80 bugs in the first place ... asking myselft what the actual benefit is of that "new" system ... obviously it's not the rider who benefits here. 😉 Will try to find a shop who has this tools ...

Do You know the numbers for the bearings and which brand would you recommend as the replacement?
  • This new exp version is much more complicated now. I think mavic id 360 hub is much more easier to service and replace the ratchet. No tools needed at all.
  • Nice job! I wonder what they solved by going this route versus the old ratchet style. Any ideas?
  • Hello, the red washer goes right through the hub and stops against the bearing? Is there a gap between the bearing and the toothing? It happens to me that the red washer moves laterally and the ratchet jumps when pedaling, could that be the problem Min 9;10

what wheels are you using with the 180 hubs? Do you use the 180's for trail riding or enduro type riding? Trying to determine if I build a set of wheels with 180 hubs.
  • WAYYYY too much special grease. Check the DT SWISS tech manual for a better idea of how much to use.
