The city should be grateful that someone cares enough to be planting the milkweed that is critical for butterflies, and habitat for the pollinators. Few people seem to notice "dead" land until some tends to it. Then people want the untended land.
  • People who plowed all the natural habitat for their townhouses don't want a tiny place for nature. Only In Marin.

How is this area rural? Highway 101 Freeway is literally right there. There is a Burger King within walking distance. This is a suburb. It's not a gated community. And the development doesn't own and thus has no say over the island. They just don't like the "natural look" and want it looking ordered and unnatural. Way too many busy bodies in Marin.

The island looks beautiful to me. The homeowners are probably more worried about their bottom line anyway.

Marcia is amazing. It would seem that these people who can’t see the beauty in nature are the ones who should change. Native landscape is important to preserve, more important than suburban sprawl and invasive species. KEEP GOING MARCIA!

Seriously?!? The community is angry over that strip of random vegetation? It looks decent. It definitely isn't at the level of eyesore or even nuisance. I get that the landscaping might not be everyone's favorite look, but you've got to be a bit wacko to make a stink about it.

Maybe it's the wrong time of the year but I don't see any fire hazard. Besides wouldn't the true fire hazard be on the home owners side ?
  • Looks really nice Marcia! Unfortunately simple minded people only like plants in rows... and if that’s a fire danger- then everything is a fire danger
  • Wow, people are that disconnected from reality that they fight over a median island…

Marin at its typical best. With a fair judge any decent Marin attorney pro bono would win a lawsut against the HOA for her being subjected to fourteen years of unlawful harrassment and illegal terrorizing. That's how legal careers can be made.

Team Basalla! That Karen didn’t even give the gardener the courtesy of pronouncing her name correctly. That is the ultimate example of passive aggression. “There is no design.” What a statement. If you want design, go look into the bylines of your HOA agreements…I’m sure there’s a lot of design in those neatly written paragraphs. Stay classy, Novato.
  • Love the pollinators and Marcia. Keep up the work, I’ll be happy to contribute to a fund to protect this environment.

There IS design to pollinator gardening. Remove exotic invasive plants, garden for the whole life cycle of pollinators, inventory and share the relative abundance of native organisms.
