In 4K 60fps, we drive along the Sea to Sky Highway from Vancouver, BC to the resort town of Whistler, around 120km north of the city, located within the stunning Coast Mountains, and home to the Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort. Vancouver and Whistler were host to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.

BC Highway 99, the Sea to Sky Highway, first opened in 1958 as the Seaview Highway, between Horseshoe Bay and Squamish alongside the Howe Sound fjord, then later extended to Alta Lake (Whistler), and then further north to Pemberton. In the 2000s, the highway saw significant upgrades to improve safety and increase capacity ahead of the Olympics, primarily between Horsehoe Bay and Squamish.

Our drive to day begins just east of Vancouver proper, from the City of Surrey, then following Trans Canada Highway 1 over the Port Mann Bridge towards Vancouver, as we connect to the Sea to Sky Highway.

  • Awesome Video! Just subbed. Can't wait to see more drives from you in Canada.
  • @DriveNRoam
Went to Vancouver and drove on the North Vancouver-Squamish stretch last month, the view was insane!

great video! i remember taking this route to squamish 2 years ago for camping, amazing views. i took this route many times before that, so this is familiar to me (at least up to whistler because i’ve only been to whistler once).

Thanks so much for the video. Congratulations on 1500 subscribers. I've never been beyond the Capilano Bridge, so thanks for taking me along. I love your videos and I like the fact that you use real music not that techno junk like most road videographers do.
  • 12:26 I remember reading a news article around 6-7 years ago that said MoTI was considering raising the 60 km/h limit to 70 km/h (making it only a single speed drop, as opposed to two). Obviously that never ended up happening. I imagine the 60 km/h speed limit comes from the design speed of the Lions Bay segment, with the sharper curves.

Always surprise me that the Vancouver area only has a little over 2.5 million people. Anyway, great video.

Great video! 21:15 Huh, I suppose if you visit Whistler enough it might work. I guess the access to Whistler offsets the costs a bit.
  • 5:03 I’m surprised they haven’t upgraded the lighting to LED in the Cassiar Tunnel. Seems weird that they haven’t yet. 9:15 I love that guide sign, showing the split at Horseshoe Bay! 31:25 Average Tesla driver…. 😂

Given the traffic volumes, I think it needs to be a 4-lane freeway all the way to Whistler, although the costs would obviously be an issue (even if the speed limit remains 80 km/h south of Squamish with no change in design speed). There's a few sections where such would be very difficult.
  • At the start, you started with "I Just Called To Say I Love You" by Stevie Wonder. Fun fact, not only this song was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (for 3 weeks from Oct. 13 to Oct. 27, 1984), but also #1 in most music charts, including Canada. Speaking of which, when it comes to year-ends, it was the #1 song of 1984 in Canada according to RPM Magazine. It was also the #1 song of 1984 in Flanders and the Dutch Top 40. Lastly, is that song really safe to use?
  • Every time you travel outside your home in Vancouver, how many times you visit Whistler up north?
