Funny how his foot was fine when he came back to argue. After that Oscar Worthy performance at the plate ....
  • @michaelhogg324
How strange was it that he was walking fine when he got dumped?
  • Libka is now one of the best Umpires in the MLB, meanwhile Dean Green was last seen playing in Japan. Libka kept his cool while Green was acting like a knucklehead. I’m going with Libka and I didn’t even see the play 😂

Hate to break it to you Clyde but if it did come off his foot and one of his partners saw it they would have called it.

I don't understand why the Erie fans are booing the ejection. Libka gave Dean plenty of chance to stay in the game

That was the right call. He swung at the pitch, making it a strike, and it landed in fair territory, thus making it a fair ball. Definitely the right call.

One of these two made it to the Major Leagues....and it's not Green.

I worked high school and college baseball and saw this ploy a few times. A legit foul off the foot gets an immediate reaction - not a delayed one.

There is no way that the ball bounces that way after it hits his foot.

Dean Green is a never been. He never made it past Toledo. Detroit was so sour on him that they sold his contract to the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. He runs like he's pulling a plow. He's now regulated to the Sioux City Explorers, a semi-pro team. Libka did do something Green couldn't do and that was actually make it to the Big Leagues.
  • I don't think I said he was a horrible ump. He made some bad calls that day. And not a hater because I'm an Erie fan. I'm die hard pirates at all levels.

It does look like it hit his foot... however if it did, none of the 3 umpires saw it. while there are many calls where it's a specific umpire's call to make, and the other umpires will only give their view in a private conference after the play if the calling umpire asks for it, this is one where any umpire can and will call it if he's sure (usually discussed in pre-game meeting between the umpires). this particular hit off the foot is nearly impossible for the plate umpire to see, and depending on exactly where it lands and how it bounces, very difficult for either of the base umpires to see from over 100 feet away. It just doesn't look any different from hitting the ground. Though I tend to think it did hit his foot based on the video, I think the batter is really over-acting as well. In my experience also, most batters hit in the foot jump up immediately and hop around. It almost looks like he sees it's an automatic out, then sinks to the ground and starts rubbing his well-armored foot hoping to sell it.
  • He was one of my favorite Erie players. not a fan of the tiger system though.
  • The umpire escalated things, as usual. The player was walking back to the dugout.
