Holotropic Breathwork® is a powerful approach to self-exploration and personal empowerment that relies on our innate inner wisdom and its capacity to move us toward positive transformation and wholeness. Acknowledging, accessing and supporting the inner healing intelligence and impulse in each individual is the essential cornerstone of this approach.

Diana Medina is a senior teacher of the Grof Transpersonal Training staff since 1999. Diana has taught modules and led workshops independently in Colorado, New Mexico, New York and India, as well as working closely with Stan Grof and Tav Sparks at training modules in the U.S., Spain, Ireland, England, South America and Mexico. Diana began her personal breathwork journey in 1993 and was certified in 1998. She lives in a high altitude mountain farming community in southern Colorado and it was in this community she grew up surrounded by a large family deeply embedded in the importance of nature, community and spirituality.

Diana has practiced medicine in the specialties of pediatrics and family practice for over 20 years. Recently she has began practicing craniosacral therapy as an adjunct to her interest in holistic healing practices.

  • I wish that everyone could realize that we are all the guru and the healer. If we can just learn these various techniques to hack our system then we can heal ourselves. Whether it be through various breathing techniques, Micro-dosing magic mushrooms, yoga, Qi Gong, various meditations, Wim Hof method, cold showers/ice baths etc....i'm currently exploring all these methods and there's truth to them all. I'm feeling much healthier and pain free as well as much happier! To whoever reads this, i wish you peace and joy and healing. I know you CAN heal yourself. Never ever give up on yourself because YOU CAN DO IT!😉💗✌🙏
  • I am Mohan, from Malaysia and 64 yrs old, I have my own experiences, and to add these conversation to them is breathtaking, thank you.

With many experiencing trauma, especially during childhood - we often hold our breath. And many have had to suppress their emotions around these diverse experiences. And as Diana says we are disconnected from our body. Breathwork helps us reconnect to our body and feelings. It’s part of a healing process that some find very helpful.

I have experienced maybe a half dozen group holotropic breathing sessions during my workshops with Diederik Wolsak who runs Choose Again. There’s no word in the English language to describe just how powerful and transformative these sessions are.

I have been doing breath work for over 15 years. I do many versions but holotropic and wim hof are my two favorite. I put breath work right up there with meditation and exercise. I do breath work everyday. I have never been to holotropic work shop but I do 30 minute to an hour sessions two to four times per week. I can tell when I need a short break or shorter or longer session based on how I’m feeling that day. I recommend holotropic breath work to anyone. I would recommend going to a work shop first though to learn the proper technique and have a sitter because it can get very emotional. I know it is not recommended to do alone but I have done it alone literally hundreds of times with no issues or safety concerns. The only side effect is the release of emotions and a more happy and peaceful mind. Breath on!

Interesting great share. I learned a new word, instead of saying “triggered”say activated it stays neutral and in your power.
  • This cleared the confusion for me. I feel more comfortable, and a feeling of "I'm into the session" comes to me when I inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth. I'll stick with that then! This breathing exercise helped me with my migraine issues. Maybe there was a release of the torrent of emotions from my body (I felt a lot of energy released from my body in my second session, and my sessions are not that long 40-80 minutes or so).

What a lovely lady Diana is, so knowledgeable and humble. I think what I understand from this is that Holotropic Breathwork is very much a facilitated healing modality, where as Wim Hof Method is very much a do-it-yourself empowerment pathway. Both great. I’d really love to try Holotropic Breathwork, but it looks like it’s going to be a long time before sessions will be running again.
  • @squidito2534
i loved this! i think i will try it alone despite what she says, i only say this because i’m sure a lot of people would suggest to not take psychedelics alone but my experience has been very therapeutic doing them alone, as intense as it was
  • First time visiting the channel and wow! As an interviewer, you ask such great questions. Thank you! What an interview ! Liked and subbed :)
  • @anavigil5166
Thank you Diana and Mike for this very helpful interview on the importance of our breath and trusting ourselves to grow and heal. I plan to look into a Holotropic Breathwork group online. Very interesting and timely for me. ☮️
  • @MsGnor
Mike & Diana, thank you for wonderful interview! Very much appreciated Fascinating topic 🥰❤
  • @jinak2904
Haven’t listened to the interview yet- impressed with this channel though and grateful ❤I found it! I started doing holotropic breath work in 2012 - it can be amazing! I restarted a couple years ago and have been having a VERY hard time with it with my Trauma Response characterized as OCPD and OCD, amongst other personality “disorders”- I’ve been having a hard time with the breathing with my perfectionism, and surrendering to the practice and being willing to do it. So if there’s others of you out there struggling with it- know you’re not alone and my practitioner has said it may not he for me unfortunately:(. My stubbornness is having a hard time with how much I’m struggling with it. I want to be able to do it as it seems it can be so helpful
