In 2008, Lionsgate's Marvel Animated movies dropped another banger, this one called Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow! A pretty much all original story, the film follows James Rogers and the children of the Avengers as they do battle against Ultron, and lemme just say... this movie might really hit you with nostalgia.

I don't know who thought that the premise of a movie about the children of the Avengers should be about them AVENGING their parents, but I think that person deserves a raise.

Honestly, the fact that Thor and Hulk were not a part of the Avengers when Ultron attacked makes his victory make so much more sense

About Hawkeye Junior leading the survivors, he very much seemed like the oldest of the kid Avengers. Pym being the youngest around maybe 11, Azari somewhere in the middle around 13 James and Torunn being probably 14, and Barton seemed more like 16 seeing as he flirts with Torunn. He sounded and looked just a bit older but not too much older. And living in a post-apocalypse metallic city would mature you faster in certain ways to be able to survive. That along with obviously having some of the skills of his father clearly make him qualified to lead despite being younger than the other survivors.

The thing about Ultron is that he ALWAYS has a backup plan and never stays down for long. It's entirely possible that he's been beaten before in the past perhaps even by Hawkeye and Hulk. Banner likely knew that this victory was a short-lived one and so choose to retreat with Betty to find a new place to lie-low. It's possible that Thor was also biding his time waiting for a better chance to intervene or gave up after trying to defeat Ultron for years with no real success. The kids would almost 100% be forced to face him again. I know the tone of the finale is fairly positive but even a cursory knowledge of what it means to be fighting an AI means that this is only the tip of the iceberg for them.
  • As a kid, this film was my introduction to Ultron. Needless to say, it was one hell of an introduction.

It makes me happy I'm no longer the only person that loves this underatted classic. Especially its technically a sequel. I wish this cinematic universe continued.

I loved the scene when Tony was giving the avengers nicknames like iron man the knight black widow the spy black panther the king it pays so much respect to the avengers and makes them seem so cool and when James calls iron man the knight my heart both bursted with joy and broke with sadness
  • I always had that same thought about Thor leaving Humanity to die. But recently, after he truly became King of Asgard in the comics, gained extra power Galactus, fought Knull all of that. He sat Down with Cap and said "How long has it been since we last fought together? Was it knull? Was it something else?" And he explains that although The Avengers are some of the people he cares about the most... they are just people. They will eventually die of old age and he will be left without them. He explains that as an Immortal Being who has lived for eons. He relishes every time he comes to earth because time is not the same for him. He never truly knows if the last time he was earth, is the last time he'll see his friends. And when I realized that's how Thor sees it, this movie breaks my heart. Maybe he let humanity die. Hell, maybe he even did it because he didn't think he could beat Ultron and he couldn't let Ultron find a way to Asgard. Whatever the case may be, he left his daughter with the people he trusted most assured she would one day find him. And then he leaves, only to look back and realizes the people he loves most, are gone. Thor may be a god, but I doubt even he could mentally handle that when it happened. I don't forgive this Thor for leaving humanity to die. But I can understand it just a little bit better now.

Wow! Noah Crawford here (voice of James Rogers). Your video randomly popped up on my home page and was such a blast from the past to watch. Voicing Cap's son was a dream come true and I'm so glad people had as much fun watching it. Thanks man. Loved your commentary and perspective. Made my day.

Thor sees time differently. He’s immortal, and he was immortal for thousands of years before he ever met the Avengers. We see him talk to Cap in the comics about how, in the relative of his own life, he’s really only known Steve Rogers for about a minute, and Steve will be dead and gone before Thor even knows it. Human concerns don’t work the same way for Thor. Edit (7 months later): I've found the exact quote, from Thor #15 in 2020. I thought I'd add it here, for further context. It is as follows: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thor: "Captain... let me ask you a question... When was the last time we saw each other?" Cap: "What? I don't understand..." Thor: "Humor me." Cap: "We fought against Knull and his armies. We faced the Phoenix Force. We... I'm sorry, Thor, I don't understand. Why do you ask?" Thor: "Because I don't. I don't remember. I never do. You see... immortality... it comes with a price. A moment for you... a battle, a war, a minute, a day... they are remembered as seconds for me. I remember them as a mortal would recall what he had for breakfast a year ago..." "It is why... why I am always so grateful to see you... you and the others... My perception of time... Each time I return to Midgard... to fight by your side... I am always so very glad that you are all still alive. I have..." "I have lost so many here... And I have missed their passing... Missed their entire lives -- entire lifetimes while I was out playing soldier for my father amongst the realms..." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The rest isn't especially relevant to the topic, and more about how he's losing access to Mjolnir at this point in the comic's storyline. Later in the conversation though, he does say this: "I have come here to tell you that I will live a thousand years and a thousand lifetimes more." It's not a matter of Thor not caring, he just genuinely doesn't experience things the same way we do. I admit, I don't think I really remembered it properly, but a lot of the things I said in the initial comment still apply.

I'm assuming there was some legal rights with the X-Men, because unless I'm remembering wrong, Azari's mother is never named. He's the son of Black Panther and some unnamed woman who is very obviously Storm.
  • whenever hawkeye appeares he steals the show, even if it's just his son. bro has the coolest design of the bunch, is an actual badass, and has mad rizz.
  • @StockeTepes
One of my childhood favorites, glad I wasn’t the only one who felt so attached to this one! The best version of Ultron on screen imo & such a powerful ending to the animated Marvel universe
  • @t.j.1584
Man this movie was great in my childhood and still great now. Also a couple of fun facts that I might’ve figured out about James Rogers and Azari. His name “James” could be a reference to Bucky aka the Winter Soldier since his real name is James Bucanon Barnes. So maybe Steve decided to name his son after his best friend which is awesome. As for Azari, the reason he has electricity powers on top of the Black Panther ones, is because his mother happened to be Storm from the X-men. And yes, this is peak Ultron. This was the Ultron I actually wanted the MCU to do.
  • This was my first exposure to Hawkeye. While we didn't actually see him on screen. We learn so much about him through the way others talk about him, and the legacy he left behind.
  • @NiGHTSIntoMemes
I was OBSESSED with this movie as a kid. Forget the MCU, I wanna see more of these five.
  • I can’t help but love the vocal performances in this movie, Tom Kane went absolutely wild in this movie, especially with him revealing he killed Cap first, and that James will follow suit. Plus the stakes. We see the remains of the suits of their parents, we see the menace of ultron, and the final battle and James nearly gets disintegrated. It all felt real. Great video as always. Cheers.
  • @Spooder_Man1421
" I had a crush on Toreen because she was so...sick" Bro avoided the fbi with that save
  • @wisegoongala4305
Honestly having Hulk kill Ultron was the only way they could’ve beaten him with how hard they built him up. Dude eliminated nearly every hero, nooo shot those kids were gonna take him down. Plus I like the symbolism of Hulk ripping apart the AI created by the Avengers that only sees him as a monster.
  • Ya know if Avengers: Earth's mightiest heroes continued, there were plans to have them travel to a dark future where Ultron took over. I really wish the MC2 comic books allowed the Avengers to have kids, would've been fun to see Spider-girl interact with the son of Captain America.
