This was taken from a bootleg, obviously, thus why the quality is like it is. I did not record said bootleg. The cropping and timing is a little weird because I tried to cut off the applause without losing any parts of the song or important dialogue.

you know it's real when he whips out the microphone

me: hoe don’t do it hanschen: whips out microphone me: oh my god

tbh they were like the only couple who got a good ending so even if they're comic relief at least they're not dead

yes, Hanschen and Ernst deserved to be more than comic relief. I wish their relationship was fleshed out a bit and their sexuality explored. That being said, Andy captures the cockiness of Hanschen so perfectly, and Ben's innocent, super nervous act is great!!! Even if the scene isn't serious, a bit of comic relief is necessary and this scene shows the fun, exciting side of first love. Also wow it's hot

I like this version of the song because they really seem like teenagers. Hanschen trying to act like he's all worldly, like he knows everything about sex, when he doesn't and he's just trying to impress Ernst, is realistic to how teenagers really are.

Andy's performance in the deaf version is so much better oh my god, I never realised that this was him in the national tour cast

When they whip out the mics, you know it's about to go down

I couldn't help but laugh when Andy just pulled out his mic

I wish Hanschen and Ernst's relationship could have been explored beyond comedy. Not only for the pure shock of a homosexual relationship in both the time period this was set in and the time period the original play was published in, but a relationship between two sides of the same coin. A lover who cannot vocalize what he feels, and is arrogant and cold, and a lover who is nervous and flustered, and has no hesitation in professing a love for love in itself.

I understand it's bad that people view this scene as comic relief because this gay relationship is just as sincere if not more sincere than Wendla & Melchior's but in my opinion, this scene is funny because the actors chose to portray it that way. I dont' see the harm in that. The scene isn't funny because it's gay, it's funny because of the obvious personality clash between Hanschen & Ernst. I'm open to hearing opposing opinions though.

i feel Andy’s connection with Josh in DWSA is so much stronger and more intimate that this duo. the sign language in DWSA really added something special to scenes like this.
  • It's so cool to see Andy play this role two different ways - this and DWSA he captured Hanschen's character at his core but they're still completely different interpretations and honestly? This man is everything I want to be

This is lovely as ever (I get all giggly every time I watch this) but I strongly recommend anyone who love Andy's Hanschen to watch this song in the revival (with Josh Castille and Daniel David Stewart as Ernst). Better chemistry, with kind of a playfulness.

I'm really glad they let him go darker blonde for the revival because this is some Draco malfoy ass looking shit and I ain't here for it now I've got something better

Andy's voice is so high! I first saw him at Hanschen in the 2015 revival by the Deaf West theatre, and the two performances, both incredibly different, incredibly beautiful, but damn Andy's voice dropped Jesus Christ-
  • Oh my god. is no one gonna talk about how they're such good kissers
  • @peerah
Since everybody else is only talking about Andy, I'm just gonna say that Ben Moss is cute as hell! And yeah the kiss is phenomenal.
