It certainly feels like a turn-based renaissance right now.

A turn based JRPG with the saviours not being teenagers, sign me up!
  • @RPGLameO
As a 32 year old RPG enthusiast, this game gave me goosebumps and chills

39 and turn based games will always be my favorites. There's sooooo many people just like us and BG3 proves that. Hopefully Square is paying attention
  • I was immediately drawn in by the camera movements and impacts of the turn based combat. It reminded me so much of Lost Odyssey. And the general premise of an Expedition Team going on a journey they're assuming they'll fail but still trying anways was an interesting take for this kind of game. Might be jumping the gun but I have a feeling 10-20 years from now you'll hear "Bro you didn't play Expedition 33? That game was so cool" And see hour long video essays on why the game is a hidden gem you never played.

Guess those big game companies forgot that the same people who adored the turn based genre back in the 90s…..still play video games! Who would have thought huh…
  • I don't mean to be a downer but I really think we should wait until we know more about this game before using it as a rallying cry for AAA turn-based RPGs. It looks very pretty but if its just walking down pretty corridors in between fights and cutscenes its not exactly doing what Square Enix is doing back on the SNES or now.

why does everyone just forget that Persona 5 and octopath traveler exist? Like these games were also turn based and also did really well, live a live did really well too. Bravely Default also did well and same with it's sequel. Like turn based Combat has always been there and been successful. Just because newer titles of FF aren't turn based doesn't mean Square doesn't hear our calls, if you really want them to go back to making turn based combat RPGs then play those games, show that's what we want
  • @momintim
It reminded me of the Legend of Dragoon addition system, but I implore people to pick this up and let the industry know we still care about turn-based games.

So hyped!! We have to support stuff like this.

To be honest even though 90% of what was shown in that Xbox showcase and everyone is freaking about isn't my thing, objectively speaking, they had a good show and showed what people wanted. This looks incredible, big surprise for sure.
  • I hope this game is a success. I would love to see more big budget JRPG style games like this!
  • Probably my favorite looking game of all the new news so far this year! So happy to hear it won't be locked on Xbox, I still would love to play Lost Odyssey but still haven't been able to.
  • I think the FF7R has the best mix between action and turn based combat.
  • Genuinely blown away by this one as soon as it ended added it to my PS and Steam wishlist defo a day 1
  • @Batterydennis
I saw this game at the XBOX showcase and looked to my partner and said "David from that youtube channel I watch will probably be excited about this one." Great video.

I'll never understand how someone can say turn-based RPGs are not viable today when games like D&D are more popular now than they've ever been
