In the forest of Chaumont, tall and grand, Lies the oak to shape by Dan's skilled hand. To rebuild the château, strong and true, With nature’s gift, dreams renew. Dan fells the trees with careful grace, Each beam a testament to this place. From forest deep, the oak he brings, To build a home where memories cling. Brick by brick and beam by beam, He restores the château, fulfills the dream. Minimal footprint, eco-wise, A legacy beneath the skies. With saw and hammer, skill and pride, He builds anew, side by side. From Chaumont’s woods to château halls, A vision of beauty, where history calls.

Words every dog owner knows so well: "Hey, what are you eating? STOP!" haha

Dan has been a great inspiration in my life. Whenever there is a huge task ahead, I think I can do it step by step, just like him. Makes me relaxed about it.

Seal the ends of the oak for the time being (use whatever rests of paint you have available). You are cutting in summer and they will dry awefully fast! Great job and enjoy the processing of this timber; it's so nice to work with fresh oak!!

That is just amazing to have a turret support that survived. Not only practical, but a little romantic in the historical contest. Just brilliant. Well done!!

I think this is going to be the most interesting part so far. I can't wait to see how you do the turret and the main part of the roof. I like that you are using the forest to get some of the wood. Get rid of the aging, dying oak trees and clean up a little.

There’s no doubt in my mind that these hard working men are having fun with their tools.

Dan, what you achieve every day is remarkable. Your skills and ingenuity is special and you are doing amazing work. The story and the ability to show us what you are doing each day is a huge . Good luck with everything.

We no longer can say Dan is restoring this chateau on his own. Nick, Brian and Cal are apart of this project in a big way.
  • It’s madness here in the States, Dan. Much rather be reconstructing a Chateau than sitting here listening to all the dribble….. You bring a bit of sanity to life❣️🙌🏻💫

Great job using the Oak out the forest. When I lived in Normandy, I built a dormer window frame out of 4x4 inch oak. The front frame sat on the stone wall. Used mortice and tenon joints to join the wood together. Carried each piece upstairs. Had concreted above the stone wall top a pad for the oak frame to sit on. Then fitted the horizontal posts that the new window sat on and above into the vertical posts and then fitted the whole assembly into the mortices of the oak bottom wall plate post sitting/ bolted on the concrete pad. On top of the posts used oak posts again to create the dormer sides wall plate. Enjoyed doing it. Zink apron and soakers etc.

Thank you for showing your drawing book Dan! I don't know why I feel better about seeing it, but I do. Everything else is a bonus in my eyes right down to the grain of the freshly milled oak. Thank you for taking us along! It's always a treat to see
  • Every time I see you use that nailer I'm jealous. I can remember helping my family build a deck, one nail at a time through pressure treated lumber. My wrist hurt for days afterwards.

That oak is lovely, it's a shame it will be hidden. Can't wait to see the turret work. 1000 views a minute currently 👍
  • How special to use your own oak tree for the roof ❤❤❤❤❤Love the black cat clock. Reminds me of my grandmother’s kitchen 😂😍😘

Using home grown oak is a brilliant idea 💡

You have turned from a 'that will do' builder to a master craftsman. So pleased to be witnessing this journey x

The three of these guys all have mad skills! A crew of 10 all rolled into the three of them. I don't think there isn't much they can't do really!
