backstory:

dianqing was born in a little cottage on wuwang hill and lived a very happy life with her parents and her grandmother. she was a curious, sweet little girl who loved travelling and playing in the woods behind their cottage. from a very young age, she wanted to be a warrior just like her father, to the point where she even had a little mini toy spear to practice her little ‘techniques’ with. at one point in her childhood, she found a rogue hilichurl close to their home, so she tried to put on her father’s millieth uniform and took his spear, beginning to chase after the hilichurl (which led to a wild goose chase of dia’s father having to chase after both the hilichurl and dia). on her 7th birthday, when her twin brothers were due in a matter of weeks, a rogue ruin guard came across their land. dianqing’s parents stayed to keep the ruin guard at bay, and instructed dianqing to travel to the wangshu inn (her parents know verr goldett and dia knows the way to the inn).

by nightfall, dianqing had reached the inn and told verr goldett about what happened, meeting xiao that same night. verr goldett sent someone to check on the inn for survivors, and dianqing (along with xiao, as dia tended to drag him along to go on adventures) decided to follow them, hoping her family was alive. what she saw was her home absolutely destroyed and her family strewn across the ground, dead. from that point on, dianqing promised herself that she would become a honorable warrior. someone who protects those who can’t protect themselves to make her family proud and so that no one has to go through what her and her family did.

in the time that dianqing lived at the inn, word began to spread about what happened. because of dianqing and xiao’s newly found friendship, verr goldett often mentioned dianqing in the reports back to ningguang. dianqing had peaked ningguang’s interest, so she requested that verr goldett keep tabs on dianqing as well to find out more about her. dianqing went on to earn her vision at the young age of 11, and at 14 years of age, ningguang decided to pay dianqing a visit. ningguang is dianqing’s role model, so of course she was really excited and basically told ningguang everything about her. ningguang felt like she had instantly grown a soft spot for dianqing and being ambitious yet again, an idea popped into her head. dianqing could stay at the jade palace and pursue her dream of becoming a warrior as the tianxuan of the qixing, if dianqing could earn the title. dianqing is now 19 years old and living in the jade palace as the future tianxuan of the liyue qixing.

personality:

dianqing gives off a very intimidating aura on the outside, but it’s nearly nothing like she is on the inside. she’s a gentle giant in nature, and extremely sweet and loveable. she tries her best to be polite and reserved, but sometimes her affectionate side will show when she’s trying to be professional. she’s also incredibly passionate about what she loves and she’ll go to the ends of the earth for her friends. she refers to everyone formally, regardless of their status (for example, mister / sir, miss, etc.) or calls people by a pet name like ‘dear’ or ‘sweetheart’. she’s normally very calm in stressful situations or arguments, but many fear her for what happens when she gets angry…

but, like us all, dianqing has flaws. she tries to be perfect for others to prevent people from worrying about her, as she tends to frequently overwork herself to pursue her dream. she believes her friends are all she has left, so she works hard for them as well, to make sure they’re safe and they don’t go through what she did (that being the loss of her family and her home). she tends to be overprotective / has a savior complex (someone who believes they’re responsible for saving others), and greatly dislikes it when people show concern towards her or fuss over her.
she also doesn’t have a great image of herself. she refuses to give herself any credit for the work she’s put in, constantly focusing on what she can improve about herself. she doesn’t see herself as special or important, and holds who’s dear to her in a much higher regard. despite sometimes being a glutton, there were times where she would skip meals or ruin her sleep schedule to improve her skills or train.
