What Makes A Voice Great? | The Charismatic Voice Interview

Published 2023-04-03
Today's podcast is all about the voice. I'm in a privileged position to be able to chat to renowned opera singer and vocal coach Elizabeth Zharoff aka ‪@TheCharismaticVoice‬. Elizabeth has multiple degrees in music and voice from Oberlin Conservatory, Berklee College of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music.

Elizabeth started The Charismatic Voice YouTube Channel seven years ago in an effort to focus on education and teaching voice to the masses. She is incredibly knowledgable about how the voice works and I really enjoyed talking to her, I learned a lot. I think you’ll find this episode really
fascinating whether or not you’re a vocalist or not. What makes a great voice? Let's find out.

  • I honestly don't care what they talk about, these are just two of the loveliest people alive and it's a pleasure to listen

Elizabeth has one of, if not THE most positive internet experiences available. Her channel is a joy to watch and is full of kindness, positivity, and love. Her viewers are the same. The world needs more of people like her!!! Great guest Justin!
  • I can't believe I watched two people talking about voice maintenance, vocal technics and their love for music in general for over two hours. In a foreign language.... and I can't even sing. You two are so delightful and Elizabeth is a real gem on YouTube.

I'm not a singer so the idea that you can consciously control your vocal cords and sing in different spaces completely blew my mind. I found myself trying some of the techniques, managed to scare my cats! Thanks so much Justin and Elizabeth thoroughly fascinating & charismatic people and voices ❤

I could listen to Justin and Elizabeth on a weekly podcast together, talking about anything and everything, forever. Just two wonderfully charismatic and fabulous humans! Amazing video!

This is the coolest interview I've ever seen. The way they just vibe off each other is so awesome. Makes it feel more like two people becoming best friends than an interview
  • I always enjoy when Justin tells anecdotes about his longtime friend, Jason Hawkwinds. It's a wonderful insight into his friends life.
  • @hardway1746
Watching her have a “eargasm” to music is priceless. Then she proceeds to analyze and explain it like no one I ever seen or heard. Simply Amazing!
  • @waygonner
These two had great professional chemistry. I could see them doing a regular podcast together.
  • I would 110% watch a podcast on the regular with you guys. "The Charismatic Ride Again". Your energies match really really well
  • Justin, you said something of immeasurable importance. I go5 sober in 2018. I am just now coming out of depression and rejoining life. Quitting is the easier part. Learning to enjoy life sober is daunting.
  • @drewood
You see it in her videos. Just a pure an honest love for the human voice and all it can do. This was a great interview.
  • @openquin1
Can we talk about how Justin and Elizabeth went deep into the story of Simanon and Sololomon, wonderful. There should be an animated series.
  • So...here I am thinking, "2 hours, meh, I'll skip around" ... and then...this is such a great duo; what a great discussion. Such an earnest back and forth. It's so nice to be included in a conversation between two people that share not only a mutual respect of one another, but a huge love of music. Beautiful. Thank you.

I love that this is not a one way interview, but truly back and forth conversation, while still hitting interview style topics. Love this!
  • @JAF729
I'm not a musician and I can't sing - yet i found this fascinating and very entertaining. Great job by both of you.
  • Elizabeth is an absolute angel. How many opera singers are there who can be excited to be at a metal festival? Her appreciation for “the other” is wonderful. She’s introduced me to a lot of music that was new to me.
  • I love both of you squealing over Dimash, hopefully now he's living and working in LA we'll get to see some more concerts from him in the US and the UK. On top of his vocal capabilities, I just love his charismatic personality and the genuine love he has for his fans.
