As Patricia told Rolling Stone , "When she was in elementary school they took tests. Her IQ was so high ... it was like a genius IQ. Then they skipped her two grades, from the second to the fourth." Unfortunately for Missy, once she jumped grades, her studies suffered, as she "felt out of place with the older children," per Missy Elliott.

Wrong! Timbaland and Missy were both unsigned artists shopping around for a record deal. Yes they did work with Devante and were apart of “Tha Basement Crew” but they did not get s record deal until Aaliyah agreed to work with them and she convinced her uncle to sign them to Blackground Records
