Was out hunting with my dad tonight and seen a grizzly bear 40 minutes outside of Whitecourt Ab. Got the camera recording and drove up to him only to find him digging the roof off a bear den that had a black bear sow and three cubs cornered inside of it. In the video the sow tried to fight her way out and one of the cubs tried to make his escape. The grizzly got the one cub but the sow and other two cubs made it away. Craziest thing to watch from less the ten yards away sitting in the truck. #nature #grizzly #blackbear #naturalselection #bearkillscub #outdoors #alberta #insanefootage

The Grizzlies hunt even fully grown Black bears. In Banff National Park in Canada, they have several instances of this happening. I had a ranch up just north of Banff and we had black bears all the time to the point of being a nuisance, then this huge Grizzly boar moved into the area and we rarely saw the black bears after that. Found a few eaten carcasses ago we assumed that he was hunting them, but it was years later that we saw the truth, that Grizzlies hunt black bears. All the carcasses we found were adults by the size of the skulls. That old bear never bothered us. At the time I had 8800 acres so he wasn’t actually near the yards, but on the outer edge of the property generally. We had no hunting on the land so he had lots to eat and generally they eat up to 80% of their diet as plant matter. He got to be a huge bear over the years! He had never been tagged. One spring we didn’t see him. As he got older he would come out earlier and earlier in the spring. We went to his den and he died over the winter. Got a loader down there and buried him by filling in the den. I know that was pointless, but after about 20 years with the bear there he became part of the ranch itself. The black bears did gradually return and during hunting season, I let a few Indigenous friends I had take a few of the bears off the land each year. They would live a very traditional life in the summers and often on one of the quarters I. Had for grazing would be set up with 3 teepees, their families and friends would come and I always spent time with them. The new owner of the ranch was leery about this continuing, but I took him to meet each family and they continue the tradition. The elders in the group have to be in their late 80s now!! Anyways. I ramble. You have some excellent video here! If the language was a little better, it could be used as a teaching aid!! Haha. I’m not complaining about the language,,,, you were just being yourselves! I can’t say I would have spoken much differently. Awesome piece of nature for you to experience!! Thanks for sharing.
  • No matter how well accept the circle of life and death, as a parent the cries of the cub broke my heart.
  • The sounds coming out of that deep forest is terrifying, a grizzly is a real life monster

There you go for everybody who thinks bears are cute and cuddly . Grizzly’s are real life monsters.

Some hiker a mile away is going to be sure he heard a bigfoot giving birth
  • Imagine being one of the cubs, having to run away as you hear your sibling being torn apart and eaten, as they scream out in pain.

I legit thought the mother scared off the grizzly, I didn’t even see the baby run out. I thought the cries were still just coming from within the den. Once he said “He’s killing a cub” I went back in the video and saw the little guy run out and my heart sank.

Grizzlies are top of the list when it comes to the most terrifying animal to be attacked or killed by.

I know it's the circle of life, but that poor little cub. Broke my heart.

One of the saddest sounds I've heard a cub being eaten by a Grizzlie!!

You should always carry pepper spray and wear a bell when in bear country. You can tell the kind of bear by examining their poop. Black bear poop contains twigs and berries. Grizzly bear poop smells like pepper spray and contains little bells.

The end tho 😂 “can I walk to the tree line” “F**K NO” 👌🏼 Smart man!
  • The mother was smart to run with the remaining cubs. There’s nothing stopping a grizzly

Those screams were heartbreaking..Nature sucks sometimes.

What blows my mind is that the Grizzly is so complacent with the car being so close, but more so that the Black Bear built a den that close to the road. Imagine how many cars have passed by not knowing they were that close to those bears.

That cub screaming was one of the worst sounds I’ve ever heard in my life! Grizzly bear was eating him alive! 😔
