The fact that they questioned you so throughly after your initial presentation tells me they respected your position and considered you a very credible witness.
  • @wgrandbois
I love that you opened your testimony with "hello, friends!"
  • @ash_11117
It’s unreasonable how the government believes this bill will raise support for them rather than just make everyone hate them.
  • @artchad
Honored to have my content be used in the fight against authoritarianism.

I dont know what I is more shocking. The bill. Or that French speakers spell Youtuber "Youtubeur". In German, which is my first language its also just Youtuber, so this has shocked me deep into my core.
  • @kevinnagar7539
JJ i'm so glad you can fight against this, your example can be used elsewhere in the world too, the ability to stand up against something.

A 45+ min. video of bureaucratic committee proceedings is not usually what I’d call entertaining, but I was riveted the whole way through. Thank you for your thoughtful and articulate representation of the Canadian YouTube public. Keep fighting the good fight!
  • @BagMonster
I know you felt intimidated by the more technical nature of these questions, but I thought you did an excellent job responding! Great work defending your fellow YouTubers and your audience's right to choose.
  • @NoChance18
Fun fact, that little "panic room" in the lobby is actually for phone/video calls! It's mostly soundproof so people outside can't hear your conversation. Makes it so you don't have to go outside for some privacy

You represented us exceptionally well and laid out our concerns in a concise manner. I rarely comment on anything anymore but I need to express my gratitude to you for taking your own time to represent the interests of Canadian YouTubers, we're lucky to have someone so articulate and with enough drive to do something like this purely out of concern for the YouTube community.
  • @MadMike1
As a fellow Canadian youtuber (albeit way smaller than you lol), thank you so much for fighting for us. This bill is a stain on this country and I wish more people in our community would speak up about it the way you are. Thank you for fighting the good fight.

One moment that made me laugh out loud. It was when Joanne Levy tried to argue that Canadian artists couldn't get an opportunity to be heard without government-subsidized legacy media. This was almost directly after you said how most YouTube content creators who find large audiences succeed from their bedrooms and basements with practically no overhead.
  • @fostermoody
Joanne Levy is just showing how out of touch she is. Yes, government subsidised radio and telecom has those responsibilities she mentioned, but if nobody is listening or watching, which more and more they aren't, then they're still failing in that obligation. They're just failing while also throwing tonnes of money from the public purse at it too.

All Grade 12 students at my school are required to write a 10 page research paper to graduate. My topic is Bill C-11, and I am indeed arguing against it. I appreciate seeing people such as yourself fight against this bill. Keep doing what you're doing JJ

I hate the professional language used by the bureaucracy. It reeks of agendas hidden behind honeyed words. I'm happy that they took you seriously, J.J. You're a Canadian hero in my books.
  • @skotski
You did Great JJ. Well done! No, everyone doesn't have the right to succeed. You deserve your notoriety because you truly perceive the concerns of your viewers and deliver interesting and valuable content.
  • @Plax123
Thanks JJ for filling us in on this. Trying to understand the machinations of Canadian bureaucracy for the purposes of summarizing it for a general audience sounds to me like a Herculean task that no one should be subjected to yet here you are. Your masochism is appreciated.
  • I still find it extraordinary that this law managed to get passed in the first place. This would easily be seen as really weird and totalitarian if this law was passed in China and enforced tech companies to show more good patriotic Chinese content. Not to mention it flies in the face of the meritocracy, one of the four fundamental principles of Western Civilization
