I love watching people's anatomy practice and going "hey i remember that reference from Pinterest"
  • @batattitude
The best piece of advice I ever got was "stop drawing what you think you see, draw what you actually see" because I had a bad habit of looking at a reference and then ignoring the reference because I say in my head "I know what an eye looks like" and that prevents you from pulling in new information because you're only ever referring back to the information already in your head.

The "Failure Notebook" is actually the reason you succeed. The detached cover is a good sign!

Watching this made me realise that there is no pre designated path to learning art. You took a very structured and stable way, which honestly is way better in the long run, but on the other hand i was just bumming around for a few years until i slowly got better lol.
  • I've been drawing for 1 year 1 month ago. The feeling of frustration, negative mindset when I saw that the results were not as expected, something that made me almost stop drawing. But then I forced myself to keep learning and practicing, and now I can see a significant difference. I'm happy with the process.

Major.. MAJOR credit for your drive, focus, willingness to do the sometimes frustrating WORK ! So much effort.. It's staggering !

I swear every time I watch one of these "I learned how to draw" videos I'm like "Can't wait for that burst of motivation I'll get from seeing someone show how "bad" they used to be at drawing and then show their progress, which might give me a good idea on how far I've already come in my own art journey!" .....and then they show the very first page and it's already better than what I can consistently create after literal years of practicing

I have major depressive disorder and for the past year I've been struggling with the fact that I couldn't find joy in drawing anymore. I think it was because I couldn't accept that I was a noob. I really wanted to be good right away but my depression also hindered me from being able to take steps forward. Then one good day I tried drawing again. And I said to myself, I won't be hard on myself. This is just the first attempt of maybe a thousand, and that's okay. I'm drawing more consistently now. And I've been making slow but steady progress. But most importantly, I started enjoying drawing again. And I don't beat myself up when I don't create a masterpiece on the first try. I don't know why I'm sharing this, I think something about this video just made me want to. Either way, it put a smile on my face, and your humor and your honesty made me subscribe :3

I'm warning you of the journey ahead. There will come a time when you will feel like you've stagnated, like there's no progress; you're not getting better. The only solution is to keep going. It's going to be frustrating but you will find results with perseverance. My advice, when you arrive there, is to critically evaluate what you are purposefully avoiding and do that. Don't like drawing buildings or mechs? Draw them. Don't want to do master studies? Suck it up butter cup. Maybe a mentor or online class will be helpful. I believe in you, dude. Art is hard. It requires dedication. You can do it.
  • "Lets have a look at page one, shall we?" front cover comes off book I dont know why that was so funny to me but it made me instantly sub

5:00 you are doing the best thing for learning right here. Practicing with reference and then ending with imagination is the best way to improve especially for anatomy bc it helps lock the forms in your mind
  • @kemix1357
as someone that is on my drawing journey, its nice to see progression
  • @orihallmark
this 1 year art progress is deeply realistic and is really comforting to me. I'm a student , have only been drawing about 3 years lol. Sometimes I feel frustrated that I can't draw out all the stories I've ever wanted to, but I realise that improving takes time.
  • @lemmidraws
Well done on your progress throughout the year. Honestly, your hard work and motivation is inspiring and it’s clearly paying off. Keep at it! I look forward to see part 2 next year 😊
  • @burnoutdoubt5813
I really like those videos that show realistic progress unlike those who make videos that they become leonardo davinci in one month congratulations on your progress homie
  • @-solo-4225
Watching you reminds me of how I started, how everyone starts, and I can’t help to smile through out the video. In my opinion, you are to a great start! Keep it up and you’ll reach your goals in no time. 👏 Much love, man. ❤
  • @kingcabbage9502
This is so inspiring to watch! I'm definitely passing your vids around to anyone learning to draw. Seeing what kind of progress you can expect is so helpful!
  • @PhiwoCreates
This is honestly the perfect video I needed to push through and actually not be too hard on myself for not seeing progress as soon as I would like, great video as always😊
  • @Jadesmorot
Proud of you for working so hard! Never forget to draw things that you love outside of study too! Having the cover page of your sketchbook fall off is such a mood
