For those who don't know; the mangaka for Food Wars consulted with actual chefs when making recipes for the manga (and later, the anime). The main contributing chef was Yuki Morisaki.

"If you're not having fun when you're cooking, you're just making food" is a beautiful sentiment
  • I appreciate the way the main character handled this. Brining out the meat's flavor is the best course of action. If you're hiding the meat's natural flavor then why even use that meat? I've eaten wild game my entire life and I've often told people, if you want the flavor of beef then use beef, but don't try to make wild game taste like beef.

Any Food Wars dish should be an actual Food War between Alvin and Kendall.
  • I never expected to see this anime trope explored through food. By only describing the flavors of the two dishes you can already tell who is the villain (By going to extreme measures to reject and bury the qualities of their unique ingredient) and who is the hero (who embraces the difficult traits of their ingredient and works to harmonize with it). Not exactly stretching for an original trope, but certainly the most unique execution of it I've ever seen.

PSA: When cooking bear, always make sure its completely cooked through, as pretty much all bear meat contains trichinosis parasites. If you eat your bear medium rare, youre going to have a bad time for a long time.
  • WOW I was surprised your results mirrored the show's. The first dish completely covered up the bear, while the second attempted to utilize the bear.

Alvin missed the opportunity to call the sauce a bearchamel

Turning bear meat into that certainly requires an anime protagonist level of culinary skill. Fitting for a late game Food Wars dish then!

I gotta hand it to Alvin, his videos just keep getting better and better. They always feel right in the BCU but not like they're clones of Babish. Absolutely great.

It's crazy just how RED bear meat is. Brings meaning to the phrase.
  • "Three pretty girls named Honey, Balsamic, and Schisandra." Now THERE are some protagonists for a food anime...
  • As soon as I heard the rival's bear was fully overpowered by the sauce, I was like "yeah no the MC's gonna not make the bear redundant because he believes in its flavor through the power of friendship doesn't he" Lo and behold, I was correct. I love anime.
  • Alvin saying the main character and his opponent is giving big "I didn't read the book but have to do the essay" energy.

A nod of respect to the chief for using real bear meat in this episode and a momemt of solemn thanks to the bears in question.

Ok you officially need to do more food wars videos or any other cooking anime where you can make the 2 dishes that are against each other in the episodes. I loved the aspect of seeing both foods being made and then being able to judge between the real versions

I expect a lot of bear puns. Didn't get disappointed, kinda unbearable though 😂 "I'm getting punched in the face by a bear but immediately afterwards, three pretty girls named honey, balsamic, and schisandra are caressing my cheeks and giving me hug." He's becoming Shokugeki no Soma's character xD

I worked in a deli for 6 1/2 years, and every few months, this old man would come in and ask for sliced ham or whatever, and while I sliced it, he would always tell me about when he was a kid, working in his dads butcher shop where they sold bear meat (and also regular meats). I was pretty excited to see this because I couldn’t imagine beforehand how someone would even prepare bear. Anyway, hope the old dude is doing ok these days, if someone could show him this video that’d be cool lol
