The Hacienda - The Club that Shook Britain (BBC Documentary 2022)

I can tell you from my personal experience that the influence of the Hacienda, New Order and Factory Records reached all the way to rural America where I was listening to this stuff and dreaming of being in Manchester, can you imagine?!

Just imagine a world where people with money put it back into the community so the youth could have a life .

I was there, raving my head off, 1989 ❤ No one could ever capture this magical time ever again, it will never be forgotten, the stuff legends are made of.

You could really feel the vulnerability and pain from Stephen Morris even after all these years when he said of Ian Curtis, "You can't know someone who's taken their life and not have regrets, it never goes away from you."

I lived 10 minutes walk away from the hacienda, i was a glass collector and eventually got some of my paintings on the wall. This brings back so many memories, i was lucky to have been a small part of that scene. In the 90s all this was just happening, I feel lucky now to have been there but at the time I don't think people realised they were making history.

I met Tony in 87 . At Granada Liverpool. He talked to me like an old friend .

This is an incredible documentary. An amazing group of people who had brilliant ideas and were young and fearless. RIP Ian Curtis. RIP Anthony Wilson

First went the the Hac in 85 to watch New Order...amazing time....then in 87 and 88 dancing to techno and house and buying pill off the Mondays under the stairs!! Top club, top people, top music, top vibe....kudos Factory records...what a ground breaking vision.....you helped make my night, year and life.

I was working for Guru Josh ( RIP) in 1990 . We played there Feb 1990 on the UK tour to promote the Original Infinity. Mike Pickering was the only DJ who played the white promo no other DJ would play because of Mad Micks sax at the start of the tune. We also played at Angels Burnley and The Underground club Liverpool which was James Barton's and John Kelly's promotion. Magical times.

Those of us in the south had “ Heaven “ in London. I was going there from 81 and saw and heard all the changes throughout the years. I decided to see what the Hacienda was all about so I went there about 87 and loved it. A different vibe to Heaven but I absolutely loved it.

Proud to have been part of it, wouldn't change anything.

I had no idea that Ian Curtis’ death was catalytic in the formation of the Hacienda, nor how bloody unusual it was to have a huge, open spaced nightclub in a former industrial building at the time. The New York connection is wonderful. I knew a fair bit about Tony Wilson, New Order & the Hacienda but I guess without knowing the details, I thought Tony came from money (he sounded posh!) and it was his “indulgence”. I had no idea about “a revolution on a dance floor”, which Tony had, flowing from Factory Records bounty & an idea the New Order guys were inspired with from their New York clubs experience. What a genesis. Oh so briefly, they lit up the world.

I moved from Glasgow to Manchester in 1988 as a student lived in Mosside today 35 years later I love the fact I was in Manchester in that Era. God bless Tony Wilson and Factory and what they did for the city! They did change a a city! Grey to colorful

Went there for the first time in 1987 and couldn’t stay away for the next few years. It was the most incredible time! Loved HOT on Wednesday nights and then back again at the weekend. Moved to London in 1990 and moved on to Bagleys, Astoria … going to open raves like Raindance. Acid house had morphed into Happy Hardcore and I loved the early 90’s in the South but never ever forgot the Acid House scene at the Hacienda. Truly the best years of my life. Recognized so many faces in this documentary and always remember having a dance with “Foot Patrol” loved those guys! 🥰 “Bez still hasn’t been home since 1989” Best quote ever! 🤣

I had a record out on Factory and went to the Hacienda with Tony Wilson. Got very drunk and ended up driving an even more lit Martin Hannett home. An incredible night.

As a DJ who was born in '82, I love watching documentaries about the origins of clubbing and the electronic music scene. This was so interesting and thought-provoking. I especially enjoyed learning how the New York scene inspired their idea to create a club (and community) in Manchester. So much can come from a spark of an idea. You don't have to have it all figured out at the beginning. Inspiring yet melancholy at the same time.

One of England's biggest Revolutionary era's that brought all cultures creeds traditions & colours together under a collective unified roof that has spread far and worldwide...... thankyou for all involved, I had the pleasure of attending once which completely changed my mindset and future pathway.
Found the vibe down south where I partied for days on end, then eventually worked for the clubs & DJ'ed for around 6 years ...... the best times of my life, and meeting my Wifee in 2002 in the Fridge nightclub in Brixton London and we are a year away from our 20th wedding anniversary.......
