Partly because of this song, the Lifad album was censored in Germany and was not allowed to be advertised or sold to young people under 18. Half a year later, Rammstein achieved in court that the album was taken off the index. A lot of people believe that this is about a sadomasochistic relationship and he is the one inflicting the pain, but When he sings "Ich seh’ im Spiegel dein Gesicht" " I see your face in the mirror" hints that the person he’s singing about is actually himself. I believe that the song is instead about self-harm and the pain and pleasure associated with it.

Rammstein is not only about music and pyrotechnics, but also theatrical performance! They are quite creative. I too believe there's a hidden box under the bathtub.

Hello there. Here is what Flake (keyboard) said about the song. They traveled to a beautiful part of France with beautiful weather recording the album LIFAD. Than they realized, most of songs had kind lyrics. So they returned back to Berlin, where the weather was crappy at the time. And than the nasty/bad/evil lyrics came back naturally. 😅 With love from Germany 🤘🏻 😎

You should watch the video again and notice Christian Lorentz's suit before he enters the bathtub and when he gets out. I feel so privileged to have seen Rammstein perform live twice becaus eit was by far the greatest live show by any band I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of them also by renowned ones like Pink Floyd, Rollin Stones, Genesis et cetera but none came close to a Rammstein concert.

Rammstein always sings what they want to say and are not afraid to say what's on their mind. But their texts are also never straightforward, they usually have more then one meaning. This song also seems to about abusive love between two persons, or specifically one's obsession towards another, who has no similar feelings towards that person. And then suddenly comes the twist closer to the end - song tells about mirror, looking at oneself. Turns the whole meaning around, two become one. And who knows, if that's even what Rammstein really meant, it may be something completely different. But therein lies the magic, too. The song can be as personal or as alien as one wants it to be. Oh, and don't worry about Flake, he is no mere mortal. He may be cooked, smacked, burnt and blown up but like a phoenix, he will always rise from ashes. Shinier then he was before.
