A Hauptwerk setup is probably one of the best ways to get realistic organ sounds out of your home organ! In this video we're setting up my old 3 manual organ with the hauptwerk software and I'll also show you all the cables and connection settings needed. At the end of the video we'll be hearing the might "Holy God, We Praise Thy Name" on the Hauptwerk Sampleset of Düren which is one of my favorite organ sets! The chamades and reed stops are just amazing!

I hope you'll enjoy this documentary style video and the improvisation with the sounds of the Düren Sampleset organ at the end of the video!

I'm not sponsored by Hauptwerk or any affiliated companies! If you have contacts, let me know though! ;-)

Paul, you very modestly omitted to mention that apart from an internet connection, a powerful PC setup, your home organ, Hauptwerk mp3 files, the headphones, and a mouse and keyboard, achieving "the whole magic" also requires you as the extraordinarily gifted, dextrous and fleet of foot operator to select and depress the correct organ keys at the appropriate time and in the right sequence to produce a sound that captivates your listeners.

i am only 15 years old but i really want to learn to play this instrument but a few months go my mom was talking to a woman who had an electric organ she was giving away for free it only has two manuals and even though it doesnt sound as good as the organ that you have i really like it and hopefully i can someday upgrade to an organ more similar to yours

A must see for those of us who can be so clueless when it comes to these things! Thank you, Paul!
  • My life truly change after I connected these cables to my Johannus organ!!😃
  • Lieber Paul.

Thank you, that is my favorite hymn!!! It is sometimes referred to as the English Te Deum.❤❤❤

Thank you for the video, I didn't realize that: MIDI, invented in 1981, Hauptwerk released in 2002 and Grandorgue launched in 2006, were not already a thing, and a day to day use among organists since a long time.

Der Maestro und Unternehmer Paul Fey.Die nächste Zeit mit Dir wird noch hoch interessant 🎉🎉🎉🎉

MIDI works by connecting OUT to IN and IN to OUT. Think of it like you are sending the signal OUT of the organ and IN to the PC.
  • Just an additional post.... I always love watching you video's.... You such a happy go lucky soul who always makes me smile and laugh along side you.... You will go far with your music.... It is my hope that some day.... some where We will have the chance to meet and exchange ideas....
  • Thanks again for including us in the organ set-up! It's pretty cool to hear and watch you!!
  • Oje so viel PC Arbeit bevor wir diese herrliche Orgelmusik genießen dürfen Doch gut das du das kannst mach Bitte weiter damit 😊
  • @fortesso
Yup! MIDI cable is best connection option for Hauptwerk, GrandOrgue and other virtual organ stuff. Tip for beginners: buy branded MIDI interface, cheap cable (no brand) often not working (error code 10). Greetings and I waiting for this video 😊

These Hauptwerk set-ups, where you can emulate some of the greatest church organs in your own home, must be a game changer for organists in all leagues all over the world, and also for the listeners, who will have access to such a rich variety of performances from any device with intenet connection at no cost. And by the way, I think I understand how the compositions are built up much better, by seeing the hands and feet of the organist, instead of just listening to a record.

Großartig wenn alles klappt. Deine Installationsgeräusche muss ich mir merken. 👏👍👌🙏
  • Großartig Paul Fey. Mir sind einige Lichter aufgegangen. Vielen Dank. ❤👍🙏

I got a chuckle from this post for it's about 3 decades in coming. We got our first Yamaha during the late 80s around the time the DX-7 burst into view, we could not afford a DX then, we purchased an analog midi equipped version. No magazines to teach one, teachers were practically non-existant for midi in those days, it took over ten years to learn even the basics then. I don't have to remind folks now how handy the internet is. Now I'm trying to absorb the USB portion of it. Thanx

Paul You might put a piece of colored tape on one cable on both ends to identify in from out.😊 Color coding really helps when the dark or in a hurry. I have a large systemw a great subwoofer, and your organ sounds great. 🎶 🎵
