A Temple in Flames The Final Battle for Jerusalem and the Destruction of the Second Temple

Published 2019-08-18
A battle that will never be forgotten! Experience the historic moments of the Roman siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE that led to the destruction of the Second Temple. A breathtaking drama, Temple in Flames shows the brutal tactics used by Titus and his legions to subdue the besieged city of Jerusalem. In a painfully realistic manner, the film shows the desperate, heroic battle waged by the Jewish fighters to defend their beloved city … to their last drop of blood.

" As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.” Luke 19:41-44

The Messiah told them this was coming...but they didn't listen.

Romans were so advanced. Their technology were on the top notch in that era

One major thing I would note that isn't mentioned here, is that the Jewish mines that successfully brought down the Roman ramps at the Antonia fort had also weakened the foundations of the fortress itself, which helped the Romans breach it. Additionally, the tunnels didn't burn the foundations of the ramps (Being that they were, well, piles of dirt essentially). Rather, the Jews dug out large caverns that were held up by wooden supports. Thus, when they set light to the wooden support, they collapsed and the whole area fell inwards like a sinkhole, and the partly-smothered flames then caught on any wood that had been on the ramps at the time. As others have noted, it's also a little harsh on the success or lack of success of Vespasian, as well as the broadly heroic representation of one side over the other being a touch iffy. Though, of course, that's not to call the Romans heroes either, not by a long shot.

  • “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!'"” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭13:34-35‬ ‭ESV‬‬ , the words of their king Messiah, Jesus ( Yeshua ) Isaiah 53 , Psalm 22 -

Thank you for the video and battle details that were new to me. I am amazed at the frequency of stunning archaeological finds coming from Israeli excavations.

I was in the tunnels a few weeks ago, and was amazed to see how much further work has been done in restoring them. And the size of some of the base rocks the length of a large bedroom.
  • Zealots: Give me Liberty or give me death! Titus: Fair enough! Or how about public humiliation and spectacular death?

God doesn't dwell in man made structures. He dwells in the hearts of His own people.

History is so interesting... And long time ago was so much more interesting than it is today..

Honestly, the history of the siege is much better explained and represented by the channel Invicta rather then this. It's more evenly balanced in terms of representation as well as presents the Jewish defenders as more tenacious fighters rather then the sorta almost hero like soldiers here.

The Romans wanted the gold from the top of the temple so it's unlikely that it was burned intentionally. As it happened, the gold melted and ran down between the stone walls. The Romans had to tear down every stone to retrieve the gold. Stones that weight several tons each. Just as Jesus prophesied, not one stone was left standing upon another.
  • These vids are really insightful. I have learned four and five details in all of them never even mentioned in ten hours of similar vids.

  • Jesus is awesome. He actually predicted this would happen in Matthew 24, Luke 19, 21 & Mark 13. It happened exactly how it was described in this video.
