Saddle Shootout

Published 2015-02-19
My thoughts on three saddles I've used recently: Brooks B17, Brooks C17 Cambium and Sella Anatomica Titanico X. I really wanted to see the two newer saddles work out. However, they just didn't work out for me.

This is a re-upload. My previous video had misidentified the C17 as a C15...

I love my B17. I have two. I sent my first one back to Brooks for some adjustment and repairs. They did a magnificent job.

I appreciate the honest review.... I purchased the Brooks Flyer a few months back and am still slowly breaking it in. I paid full retail price for it and that was not cheap, so I hope it eventually breaks in to the point where it is comfortable. So far the jury is out. I've decided to give it another 500 miles to see if it breaks in entirely.
  • I have both : Brooks B17, and Brooks Imperial with the cut out. Both are the best saddles I ever had . The only thing that I do not like about the saddles that they are heavy saddles . I tried expensive Fizik and Specialized 3D printed saddles , Italian Selle saddles , the top of the lines saddles that cost around $300-400 each . None of them is better than the brooks B17! Trust me, I experiment a lot! Once Brooks saddle breaks in - it is the best saddle ever ! But ,as I said , it is a heavy saddle : 540 grams.

I love your videos. Thanks for your reviews and thoughts.

I've just put a selle anatomica x1 on and rode ten miles and yes I had exactly the same issue with the sides digging into my flesh.
  • I have the same problem with my sella anatomica. I'll going to try lacing it to pull the flaring leather in.

Ultimately the b135 or b33 i think will be the most comfort.

Thanks for your reviews, I'm thinking of buying a Brooks saddle I like what I hear about the B17, I live in N.Y.C ,,,
  • I ride an Imperial B-17 Brooks and as it breaks in, I love it that much more every ride. Lots of copy cats but you really can't argue with the longevity of a company like Brooks! Great video bye the way. Ride safe.

I found the sides of this saddle really sharp some in thinking of using a leather bevelling tool to take the edge down.

Anatomica has improved their saddle a good bit. Maybe give them another shot?

I have an Anitomica, it’s a nice saddle but starts to really sag and turns into a hammock type saddle after breakin. I find it works really well as my mountain bike and not so well in a road position, so I put it on my hard tail MTB and it works great. I also have a Selle Italia SLR , Selle SMP Pro, and a B17, all on road or gravel bikes, and I like them best in that order.

I rode a Brooks Professional for years. Fit my ass like a glove. Only issue I had was a certain portion of my male anatomy going numb on long rides. Just mounted a Selle Anatomica X1 on my road bike and am hoping that I don't have the issues you had with yours.

Sorry the SA didn't work for you. I'm a much lighter and smaller guy that you are and I have found the SA to be the most comfortable saddle I've ever tried in almost 40 years of riding. To me; just incredible. Thanks for the shootout, and good luck.

What's the gadget holding your rear bike lights behind the brooks called? I Imagine I can even attach a handle

copper.. what is the benefit to make the rails copper? generally the serious mirror polished seatposts are alloy

Great video! Your honest review is what we needed :-) I have c17 cambium with cutout and at first I hated it but now I use it in my stumpjumper and love it. In my fatbike I have sqlab 611 active which is hands down the best for hardtails. I'm still searching saddle to my cx bike and last season I had specialized phenom. Older phenom is awesome but newest model of phenom sucks.

You didn't say anything about whether or not you liked the cut out in the Selle Anatomica.  Well?
  • @MrTBoneMalone
From what I understand, you need to make sure to keep the tension up on that bolt in the front of the saddle so that the rails don't become damaged. Keeping the leather taught helps keep stress off of the rails.
