The last time Turkey were labeled "dark horses" at a UEFA European Championship, their dreams of going deep into the competition quickly became a nightmare as they crashed out winless at the bottom of their group.

But Turkey are back for redemption at Euro 2024. Having stormed through qualifying on the back of their strongest team in years and claimed 3 points in their opening group game against Georgia, they’ll fancy their chances of turning that old “dark horse” label into a reality.

Will history repeat itself, or can the Crescent Stars finally live up to the hype and surprise everyone? Here's why Turkey are the real dark horses at Euro 2024.

Bro I am Turkish but please don't do this lol. We need to stay humble and focussed. Nobody in Turkey thinks we can actually win the Euros. For me personally reaching the quarter finals sounds like a nice and realistic estimate.

After matchday 1, Turkey stands at #1 in their group, above Portugal. The match against Portugal will show if they can unlock their talent or not.

  • Hey, Turkish here :) Thanks for this great video. We should remind everyone 2002 World Cup and Euro 2008, tomorrow, and so on. Best of luck Turkiye!

Unfortunately Turkey is the most inconsistent team I have ever seen. They have the potential to win against Portugal today, but also lose high against them. The defense and middlefield positioning after losing the ball is terrible.

As a Turk, if I had watched this video before the tournament, I would have called it exaggerated and ridiculous. I watched it after the Austria match and wow.

Even if Turkey doesn't win, it's still a great success for the team to come this far imho.

Just saying, Romania is unbeaten so far in qualifiers + Match 1 group. Today is the match against Belgium. The biggest test. Let's hope my comment won't age like milk :D Turkey looks great too. Can't wait to see them against Portugal right before Romania - Belgium. Full day of great football.
