Figs are very easy to root. Take 8 inch cuttings from the end of the branch. Take off most all leaves. Put in 4 inch pots or plastic cups with holes in the bottom. Fill with perlite mixed with potting soil. Keep damp but not soggy. Figs don't tend to like wet feet but can actually root in water. Once rooted, remove to a better draining area. I also sometimes put about 10 in a gallon sized pot with perlite and potting soil mixed and get good results. I have shipped cuttings wrapped in damp moss and they started making roots on the way. So that may be another easy way. Also works for mulberry trees, beauty berries and many other trees and shrubs.
  • OMG Danny & Wanda, DSH is my dream homestead! But, I'd be dreaming only... I'll just continue watching you guys, my ideal homesteaders.
  • Given the problems with vertigo, it’s a blessing to be stable on a ladder. Leverage has a lot to do with perceived weight, and it becomes more apparent when the pole is extended. It looks to me like, after last year’s drought, the perennials are on a procreative hyperdrive. Nothing is more effective at inducing increased productivity than the threat of death, whether in critters or crops. The windows of heaven have surely been opened, and His blessings are pouring out.
  • My massive fig tree was a scrap branch that was cut off and thrown into a leaf/brush pile. I spotted it in the edge of wood line. Was about 2 1/2-3 foot long. It had started making roots in the composted leaves. So I transplanted it and then moved it when I moved here back in 2003. It is a massive tree now and is probably over 20’ across from side to side.
  • Same as my daddy used to say when you remove the lower leaves off tomato plants - he'd say: you're growing tomatoes not leaves. Great video as usual you two. Regards from Australia 🦘🦘
  • If you'd planted that fig up a couple of feet higher, it probably would work. Figs are more desert dwellers than swamp dwellers. I root figs in a plastic bag on top of my fridge. Cut a foot or so off the ends of limbs, put some hormone on half, wrap 'em in wet newspaper and put them on top of the fridge in plastic. In 2 or 4 weeks they have roots and put them in dirt in a pot. In the spring I put them in the ground and keep they watered for a year then they go on their own. Also you can put them in your compost pile in the late fall. They root great that way. In the spring when the leaves come out plant in the ground. They do really good. Danny should build a scaffold in that fig tree. There's an old man here that did that in a giant black mission. He gets nearly ever fig and sells them he gets so many.
  • @junkinjodi
When I saw Danny up in that tree, I can here my grandma saying boy you better get out of that tree. Lol.
  • We had what my mother called a sand pear when I was a child. They were small and hard but made the best canned pears. I remember climbing in our fig tree every summer and eating figs fresh.
  • Danny and Wanda the pears look good. Great video God bless both of y’all and your family. My husband loves figs. It’s sure is hot outside be carful.
  • Good afternoon Mr. Danny and Ms. Wanda. Getting our very first fig that should be ready to harvest today. Never have ate one so can't wait to get out there and take a look. Planted pear trees last year and got our first few this year. Anything we get is a blessing. Thank y'all for sharing and Ms. Wanda is going to be busy in the canning kitchen LOL. Have a blessed day.
  • I cut a branch from our fig tree and used it to stake a small plant in our garden. It took root!
  • @DinkTank369
Hello Danny & Wanda Nice harvest Have an amazing day/Weekend
  • When I pruned my fig trees this year, we put the stems in soil. We now have about 10 new fig trees. I have never done anything like this! also have 1 surviving apple sprout.
  • I paid close attention to how you trimmed up that rooting end of the fig. I'll be really tickled if it roots! I'll try it myself!
  • @MedusasHairDo
That is some hard work overhead picking the pears. I never heard you could do that with a fig tree, just starting one from a cutting. I have had a hard time keeping mine from dying back each winter, then it pops up and stays small. My favorite Pear is the D'anjou. I am slowly getting things set up for an orchard and would love to have the blueberries you all have down south. They are so expensive to buy up here in Illinois. I love the tips you give us. I am about to try getting some peach trees to grow using your leaves method you showed us a few videos(live) back.
  • @Jomama02
When i was a small child, maybe 3 years old mom and grandma would can up small pears, only like 2" and would spice them. It was always a treat to go to grrandmas to eat those pears. To this day I've never seen those small pears or a recipe for spiced pears. They had cinnamon and cloves in them. Such a happy happy memory for me. I'd love to find the little pears and a recipe for them. We lived in Ohio and the tree was in our back yard. The pears were brown.
