What is a symbiote? It is defined as a close relationship between two different species. Sometimes this is mutual, granting benefits to both, commensalism offering the benefit to one without the harm of the other. But some... are parasitic, infecting the host and feeding off its organs, twisting and distorting them to the detriment of the host, even to death. These are all characteristics of a symbiote, but one venomous character has become synonymous with the symbiote. A character so popular on the back of its host that it can’t help but infect the media of its opposition, at times to its benefit and at others, not so much. But let’s leave that idea to fester while we focus on another. The concept of Being Underrated.

When something is referred to as Underrated, it is done as a means of explaining that the general public does not appreciate or value a product properly. If something is deemed Overrated, then one believes that public opinion levies too much praise to a product. As I have made that very statement, I can bet that you have had at least one video game come to mind. I know I did, Arkham Origins. Originally the black sheep of the franchise, it has in recent years been hailed from the rooftops as being an underrated gem that didn’t get its deserved praise because it had to fill the collosal boots of Arkham City. But at what point is an underrated gem, no longer underrated? If the general public believes that a product is underrated, is it still overrated? This is a question that applies to today's subject, Spider-Man Web of Shadows. A game so underrated that I believe it has entered a new sphere.

But let me pose a question first, what does one do, when their favourite product is underrated? Simply, convince others of its true value. But in attempts to do so, some have fallen victim to embellishing a product with hopes of selling it to their audience, leading the product itself to become distorted, at the detriment of itself. I’m guilty of this myself. I was so convinced that the public was wrong about Assassin’s Creed Unity that I was blind to the game's flaws. In discussions online I’ve seen many, including myself, praise Web of Shadows as one of the most underrated and even one of the best Spider-Man games of our time. I don’t believe these takes are wrong. Web of Shadows has some excellent mechanics and systems with some setpieces being etched into my mind, but perhaps we are elevating this game so high that it is becoming Overrated. An overrated product breeds disappointment, which in itself perpetuates the overrated label until the poles shift again and the game is back to being underrated, which will bring lower, and eventually exceeded expectations. These labels are ones that feed off of games like Web of Shadows that have highs the likes of everest but the lows of the dirt, so let’s take a look at what is supposedly one of the most underrated Spider-Man games, and see if it truly is underrated and how a parasite of its own has festered and corrupted it from within.

Spider-Man Web of Shadows. Of referred to as the most underrated Spider-Man game. Is Web of Shadows REALLY Underrated? That is what I intend to answer in this Spider-Man Web of Shadows Critique, Spider-Man Web of Shadows Analysis, and Spider-Man Web of Shadows Review. Web of Shadows 14 Years Later holds up well and this Web of Shadows review, Web of Shadows Critique, Web of Shadows Analysis, and Web of Shadows Retrospective will discuss how. This Spider-Man Web of Shadows Retrospective will look at others who have called Spider-Man Web of Shadows Underrated while analysing the Spider-Man Web of Shadows Gameplay. Web of Shadows is hopefully the first in a long line of Spider-Man reviews on this channel.

  • Being honest this game with its dark ending and the design of symbiote black cat definitely awoke something in me, I wish it would get more attention
  • This game's combat slaps so hard, I remember using a thug as a skate-board once.
  • I just hope insomniac tries to adapt the 'on wall-combat'. It would be so dope
  • @Y0U2BER
Web of Shadows has the sickest combat of any Spiderman game. It's fast, visceral, flashy and cinematic. Insanely fun web swinging, dope boss fights, and 2 movesets are just icing on the cake.
  • @baki484
Now this is an underrated Spiderman game. The webstrike is perfect, air combat is great here especially in the vulture bossfight swinging is fast as hell and the seamless switching between the red and symbiote suit each with its advantages and disadvantages. Hope insomniac is taking notes for Spiderman 2.
  • @thebeaver8456
Fun Fact the sequel was gonna drop the open world and be a level based game and focus even more on the combat. The best part is Wolverine would be a playable second character to make up for the lack of the black suit.
  • @EvanLee531
I remember playing this game more than 11 years ago, I was around 5th grade. One of the things that are still with me to this day, is this rotten feeling that was growing bigger and bigger as you progressed through the story and the city got more infected, dark and scary. I will never forget that feeling when I was progressed enough that the city now felt like a constant danger and ugliness instead of just a simple swinging around beating thugs and saving civies.
  • @RulliSosa
That scene where he walks head down , while all that combat goes on around him, is prob my fav game scene of all time. Shows the struggles that comes with being spider man and how he alone is not enough always
  • @johnjohnson7259
Such a shame the studio got shut down. IMO this is the best Spider-Man game out there
  • Playing this game recently, there's just too much to praise in the combat. Easily my favorite combat from any Spider-Man game, even with the combat flow and style of the Insomniac Games being as beautiful as it is. I'm hoping the sequel will bring a more intricate web strike so that all four of the face buttons can do something different. That web strike system was the best and it was never utilized again.
  • This is still my favorite Spiderman game. Definitely worthy of a remake.
  • hats off to SHABA games, first time making a spidey game, in 17 months, im very impressed
  • Combat was always fun plus having Spiderman take a darker path is always interesting considering how Peter Parker is as a person. Yeah they may be edgier version of him in alternate universes but seeing this as a kid blew my mind.
  • @mixednarwhal
The first black cat costume and body proportions definitely awoke something within me and always found myself being drawn to black cat related Spider-Man stuff
  • Aw man your videos are really starting to go hard. Keep it up with that cinematic feel in the writing, and your clean easy on the viewer editing style. Been watching you since the ultimate Spider-Man video man. I know how much of an undertaking making BEEG vids like this are.
  • It's really interesting, that Insomniac didn't think of this. You can transition through Web-Strike, and it give you directions and change of scenery. I also remember during my playthroughs I used to go initiate the symbiotes on ground, transition to a wall, but if the fight is overwhelming, I would go onto the roof, knowing they will follow, rest and reinitiate. Brilliant system. Insomniac could value a lot implementing this in Spider-Man finale. A giant leap from arena combat in first 2 games
  • @mido3071
Another web of shadows review that fails to mention that you can web parachute civilians to safety mid-air which is a really cool hidden feature. Great video though !
  • I actually really hope the next spiderman game takes more inspiration from this games combat and Web slinging. I adore this game to death and even Shattered Dimensions.
  • @YYesImCrazYY
So glad I found this channel your videos are so well made man. Your voice is nice to listen to and all the facts you sprinkle into these make them so entertaining. Usually I put videos this long on in the background but for most of your vids I actually full on watch them. Keep up the great work!
