QUOTES:

“If I’m manipulating you, I’m trying to get you to do something that’s gonna benefit me. If I’m leading, I’m trying to get you to do something that’s gonna benefit you, that’s gonna benefit the team, and it’s gonna benefit the mission.” [24:47]

“It’s OK to be inexperienced as a leader. You can get through that as long as you’re humble, and you listen, and you take advice from other people. You should be able to do fine. No one expects you to know everything as a leader.” [9:07]

“When I look back at my career in the navy, in the seal team, just about every single thing that I ever did was through relationships.” [15:58]

"Subordinate your ego" is a really great way to look at your relationship with your own ego. So it's a part of your 'team' (i.e. personality), but you have to keep it in check as a member of the team, not overriding the rest of the team

Oh shit, I bet a lot of people have been waiting on this one!
  • @yoganandavalle
Tom Bilyeu is amazing, across the interview I perceived him as a kid, the same look of a kid when he's trying to learn something, and amazed by the wisdom of master like Jocko Willink

I adore the homage Tom gives Jocko with his wardrobe selection. Appreciate how Tom's interview style has evolved...his guest is showcased like a jewel in the crown of his hospitality.
  • @IrvOfficial
Leadership is more about the right attitude than it is an assignment.
  • There’s a golden nugget right at the beginning from Tom - “in no uncertain terms my success is in direct correlation to the number of books I’ve read”
  • @malaaeka
Tom, you have no idea how much I appreciate you. Always asking the important questions, like "how can the average guy apply this." You never let me down! Every time I think "ok how do I apply this", you ask it. Impact Theory is truly life changing. Such a blessing to have access to this gem of a series. Thank you so much.
  • @superhyoumans
Wow! This was like a mastery crash course on leadership and life in general. What an episode! So much value.

Wait, jocko isn’t really black and white?
  • @nursinggrad421
Tom your videos are helping me control my depression right now because I failed the first semester of nursing school but I can still go back and redo it. Watching your videos about failures and getting back up is motivating me to keep going forward. I'm going to be 53 in March and my clock is ticking. Soon I'll be too old and it's time for me to retire but I'm not letting that stop my goal of becoming a registered nurse. Thank you sir.
  • @Stoic-ds4so
