When it first launched, Barbiegirls.com was one of the biggest virtual worlds out there, quickly racking up player numbers into the millions. However, today barely any traces of it exist online, and barely any attention or coverage of the game and it's (somewhat fraught) history exist online. Today, let’s revisit Barbie’s lost virtual world, Barbiegirls.com!

hey, thanks for shouting us (the barbie girls rewritten project team) out ! it's truly such an honor for you to cover this MMO we love to much and are trying to preserve :)
  • @DissonantSynth
Izzy, casetify has been under suspicion for art theft. The evidence is pretty clear. It's best not to work with them again after your contract is complete

Hi Izzy, I'm the voice actress for the Barbie Girls Rewritten channel trailer and development updates thank you so much for shouting us out!
  • @atel1a
howdy, im one of the lead devs of Barbiegirls rewritten, and I'm also from New Zealand. I watch your videos pretty often so its pretty crazy seeing our project in your videos. You did so well on this video, thanks for giving more attention to the original game for how amazing it was, and shouting us out as well!!
  • I feel like the virtual worlds that survived the longest were the ones that had the least restrictive pay walling. Free users actually add alot to virtual worlds as they can still fill up multiplayer servers for mini games and chat with the paying players that these virtual worlds are actually after. Without free players that actually have a reason to play and keep playing, virtual world often do not have enough of a playerbase to maintain the gameplay experience.

Video idea suggestion: Art Fight and its controversy with the owner/creator. Art Fight is a yearly art event thats gotten more popular each year, and i havent heard anyone talk about what happened with the staff. You have a talent for covering events in a sensitive and non-inflammatory way, and i think its what the community (and confused onlookers) need

i played this when i was too young, stupid, poor, and didn’t speak any english right before it was shut down so i never got the full experience. All i remember was being extremely enthralled. I thought it was the most posh exclusive game ever. I was seriously pining after the super cute pets. It tickled every part of my little girl brain, like unbelievably so. It just felt really nice to have a space for girls and girly things without ridicule (even though i couldn’t grasp the scummy business practices) in my mind, that would be the ideal world if parents and grown ups didn’t exist and we could just do whatever we wanted. The idea of having and decorating your own room, going shopping for cute clothes, having pets and a big group of friends where you just have parties and sleepovers every day was actually heaven for me.

I would love to see you do a deep dive on Pixie Hollow! That was one of my all time favorite MMO games and had a very unhealthy obsession with it as a kid. I thought the reason it closed was because Disney focused a lot on their apps but I hardly see a lot of topic coverage on this game :/
  • @wowjennawow
was anyone else obsessed with the minigame where you run your own clothing shop to a concerning level or is there just something wrong with me 😭
  • I love the vintage barbie games, It's sad to see all these virtual chat worlds die out and off :(
  • izzy, i am on ed recovery and your videos help me eat without freaking out 💗 also they help me clean, get clean, do chores (adhd, depression). you're solely the reason i am still going lol thank u for your service 💗

As a queer boy who grew up chronically online, the flash games on Barbie and MyScene helped me express myself while I was still closeted. I didn't know about Barbie Girls until it had already closed down which was sad, my online world of choice was Habbo (and also MyCoke which was made by the same developers, RIP) where they also used the word furni.

This reminds me of Bella Sara, omg, when I was young I was obsessed with Bella Sara website and I was so sad that the cards weren't available in my country. They started releasing them at the very end of Bella Sara's existence, in my university years, and I've collected them religiously, lol. I hope you'll make a video about Bella Sara one day! <3

Izzyzz x Dankpods is the crossover I didn't know I needed, but now long for.
  • @shelcizadlo1186
i was obsessed with this game. i got the mp3 as a christmas gift and thought it was so exclusive. people were constantly at the mall calling each other beach. the vibes were immaculate. i wish we could get a rewritten version but idk if it will ever fully happen
  • @LadyMeyneth
god this brings me back so many memories. i loved this game so much as a kid and my parents managed to buy me one of those mp3 players which i loaded with lady gaga and vocaloid music lol. unfortunately it became lost (pretty sure one of my aunts stole it after we asked her to keep it in her purse for a bit while we were out walking on a family trip). i still own the box which is proof enough that it existed for me LOL
  • You remind me so much of Li Speaks when you talk about virtual worlds. You 2 are def my favourite YouTubers
  • @galaxy_fox_8415
I remember trying to get into this game as a kid. I was supper into those kids MMOs and signed up for any I could get my grubby hands on with my parents permission. I remember dropping this one almost immediately because I was constantly running into the whole "whoa hold on there this rudimentary gameplay feature is for vips only you need to give us your money" and even as a child I could smell the bs.

I miss when Izzy would yeet their phone into the dresser
  • @bradleestop
God I miss this game, it meant so so much to me as a kid. It was a way to express my femininity and love for clothes and design. My aunt would pay for my subscription so my dad never knew🥺😭🖤
