Lyrics:
Shake it up

I never loved nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost in the sounds

I hear in my mind
All these voices
I hear in my mind
All of these words
I hear in my mind
All this music
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart

And it breaks my heart
Well, it breaks my heart

Suppose I never ever met you
Suppose we never fell in love
Suppose I never ever let you
Kiss me so sweet and so soft
Suppose I never ever saw you
Suppose you never ever called
Suppose I kept on singing love songs
Just to break my own fall

Just to break my fall
Just to break my fall
Just to break my fall
Break my fall, break my fall

All my friends say that of course it's
Gonna get better, gonna get better
Better, better, better, better
Better, better, better

I never loved nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost in the sounds

I hear in my mind
All of these voices
I hear in my mind
All of these words
I hear in mind
All this music

And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart

I hear in my mind
All of these voices
I hear in my mind
All of these words
I hear in my mind
All of this music
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart

And it breaks my heart
Oh and it breaks my heart
Oh and it breaks my heart
Oh and it breaks my heart
Breaks my heart
Oh and it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
Oh and it breaks my heart

Her mom was my music teacher in elementary. We always use to watch her music videos and dance to her songs. Those were the good days, miss you Ms. Spektor 💗.
  • The fact that this was made 15 years ago and still sounds and looks so fresh says a lot about Regina ❀

I'm 66 years old and have only discovered Ms. Spektor's music in the past year. Her music is sensitive, poignant, intelligent, lyrical, and passionate. If only I'd known about her 19 years ago my musical life would have been much richer. Better late than never!

Finally. After all these years, finally. I accidentally deleted all the songs from my iPod in 2008 and have been trying to remember this song ever since. All I could remember was uh, uh, uh uh. Which wasn't helpful in searching. Mentioned it to my fiancee tonight and sung that part to him and he immediately gave me her name. So good to finally know the song, and add it to my cell.
  • I’m almost 30. I happened upon this song when I was 14. I just spent roughly 30 minutes typing in every single idea imaginable into every search engine I could to find this song! Pieces of my memory were obsessing over this song and I couldn’t remember it! I was not disappointed to have a listen again.

It was 2004. 23 years old me working at a car dealer. used to do 12 hour days, came home late one day, and sat down alone to eat my dinner and switched to VH1 or something and this video started playing. I was blown away as this was not the typical type of sound they played. I remember frantically running around to find a pen to write down the song and artist. went out the next day to buy the album, She was so fresh they didn't even have it in yet and had to order me a copy in. Begin to hope was such an amazing album.

It wasn’t recommended, we searched for this masterpiece.

I have neurons that are connected just for this song.

The song is pure genius the way she uses the lyrics and music to actually sing what the lyrics are conveying. As she sings “better” the pronunciation gets better with each repetition. Thats just one example and she does it throughout the song.

This song has just been trapped in my subconscious for over a decade and something completely random triggered the memory of this. Life is beautiful

this song means a lot to me. Regina Spektor in general means a lot to me, my mom listened to her music a lot while she painted. I remember sitting down and watching her all the time. She dealt with horrible schizophrenia and she really coped with it through Regina’s music. Thank you for starting my passion for art and music, Regina.

I don't know why I suddenly felt the urge to listen to this as soon as 2019 hit

I cannot describe in words how much this song means to me but I’ll try. I listened to this song every night before bed when I was small, up till I was around 10-11 years old. I would beg to watch the music video (though I didn’t know it was called fidelity until a year ago - I just referred to it as Regina) Now, as I’m getting close to 15 years old, I still listen to this song whenever I have trouble falling asleep. I age regress as a coping mechanism, and this song makes me feel immensely safe while in little space. The odds of this being seen are very small, and it will likely get lost within the hundreds if not thousands of other comments thanking you, but I still feel the need to express how much you’ve done for me without even knowing. Thank you. Thank you so so much. 💝
