This is why you need to travel to northern Albania! Lake Shkodra near Shkodër is quite possibly our favourite place in Albania! From the glistening blue water, to the mountain backdrop and the incredible food, this area is just one of the most beautiful and calming we've seen here in the Balkans! 🇦🇱

I just found you on YouTube about a week ago, and been watching your video since. You are such genuine people and a perfect match. Your casual way of introducing the places is so refreshing. During this troubled time knowing that I can turn on the channel and see your program makes the days less grey, especially knowing how hard you work on tight budget but still smile so happily has touched my heart. Wish you all the best.

I’ve never had carp but it looked so good! And I love eating food right from where you are! It is so beautiful where you guys are!
  • @kazzicup
Carp looked delicious at the beginning of the video. I don't think I've had carp. Nice salad too. 🐟

I was in Albania a few years ago and was amazed to find a bunker had been built on top of and inside, a Roman amphitheatre ....you know how you do ? That aside, a lovely country and another lovely video from Matt and Julia....thank you Xx

There was no footage of Matt (an English person) eating carp. I suspect Julia (as an Anglo-Russian) only halfheartedly ate the carp.
  • I live in Canberra, ACT. Each year they have fishing competitions to get carp out of our local lake, Lake Tuggeranong. It is interesting that we don’t eat carp and consider it a pest.

Carp was popular among European monks, who raised them in ponds, and I believe it's popular in central Europe. In America, it's considered a trash fish, and even sport fishermen dislike them, in spite of them being very popular in the UK. It's a soft bodied meat, and Americans prefer a firmer fish to eat. And they're considered to live in muddy water, which can give them an equally muddy taste.

Everything I know about Albania came from the TV show Cheers.
