Grand Moff Wilhulf Tarkin was an extremely important part of Emperor Palpatine's vision for the future. He was placed in charge of the Death Star and also had a hand in developing the military doctrine for the entire Imperial Navy. We take a look at the secret relationship and close connection these two developed during their rise to power and why Wilhulf Tarkin became Palpatine's most trusted advisor.

Tarkin was so intimidating that he could wear slippers on the Death Star and no one would dare comment about them.

The most disturbing thing about Tarkin is that he, despite not being force sensitive at all, is still as terrifying as Palpatine or Vader. Imagine what he would do if he could become a Sith...

For those who wonder, the "Tarkin" novel, from which a large amount of the information in this video comes, was at first written for Legends, but James Luceno was forced to rewrite it and likely remove content to fit it into the new continuity. That's why that novel has characters from Legends, like Armand Isard or the protocol droid of Plagueis, who have not yet reappeared in the new Canon.

The irony of Tarkin taking out Krennic was that by destroying Scarif base he destroyed himself and the Death Star. If the plans left in the transmitter had been analysed in the post action report, the deliberate vulnerability in the Death Star would have been uncovered. And they could have welded some cope cages over the exhaust port by the time of the Battle of Yavin.
  • That use of Count Dracula footage for Tarkin and Dooku is a good joke. Those two actors are legendary and Star Wars is better for getting them.

Something pretty scary about Tarkin is how naturally evil he became over the years. For example, the novel "Cloak of Deception", se one year before "The Phantom Menace", shows Tarkin as a kinda sympathetic young aristocrat. People REALLY change over the years

What's most amusing about the whole 'Tarkin's Greatest Mistake' fallout is that, let's be real, the Emperor's furious reaction to Alderaan being blown up is rank hypocrisy. The Emperor can't even get mad at the political fallout, because Tarkin's chain of thought was exactly like the Emperor's. And in fact, the Emperor also made similar stupid mistakes of miscalculating the amount or intensity of backlash he'd get from his flashy intimidation tactics that seemingly brought instantaneous results both in Shadows of the Empire and Return of the Jedi. Let's face it, Tarkin and Palpatine was perfect for each other, it's just that neither of them had the self-awareness to realize that they were perfect for the wrong reasons.

I like how Tarkin has been treated by the new canon in general, but it's pretty sad that horrible short-story in which he sleeps with a stormtrooper is part of it. Tarkin would NEVER do that with someone of such rank, regardless of their gender.
  • And to those who fear chaos, freedom is seen as chaotic. Truth is, they fear anything they can not control.

1:06 Speaking of Raith Sienar, he and Tarkin actually invaded together the planet Zonama Sekot in the novel "Rogue Planet", set 3 years after The Phantom Menace. Sienar's whole personality is basically "I HATE YOU, TARKIN"

Grand Moff Tarkin is the Rebellion's unsung hero. It was His insistence on the Tarkin Doctrine that allowed the Rebellion to flourish. If the Empire had someone competent in his position it would still reign over the galaxy.
  • The Sith Academy level in KOTOR 2 is still such a great in-depth picture of how the teachings operated.

Tarkin may have been as disposable as anyone else to Palpatine, yet it is worth noting that his reign after he was gone lasted less than half a decade. Just about the same for Thrawn.

You just know that when Tarkin squashed those protestors on that landing pad it made Palpatine's heart race. Palpatine only ramped up military operations after his precious Tarkin was unjustly struck down by a force assisted proton torpedo. Move over Han and Leia, this is peak relationship goals in Star Wars.

11:55 Ngl, I actually find Bane's samurai outfit from TCW pretty generic. In fact, I think his Legends orbalisk armor is pretty cool and far better, no matter how many fans say it looks ridiculous.

"...And that the strong always defeated the weak." -It takes more strength to show kindness, compassion, understanding, respect and forgiveness than to give into the weakness of fear, envy, arrogance, selfishness, anger, and hate.
  • @kenle2
Palpatine warned Dooku: "Don't let Tarkin get behind you with a wooden stake."
  • Would be nice to see sir Peter & sir Christopher share screen time whilst they were among the living in Star Wars❤

Tl;dr, Palpatine wanted a friend but couldn't have a Sith friend so settled for the next best thing.
