WHAT'S IN MY CAMERA BAG? WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY IN ALASKA EDITION

I thought it was about time that I did an updated 'what's in my camera bag' video, as it has been a few years since I last made one. I have recently been signed as a Nikon creator, so I am now shooting on the Nikon Z9 and a range of different lenses.

This video was shot by Libby Penman.

Your dedication to showcasing the wonders of the natural world through your lens is truly remarkable. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to preserving our planet's precious creatures. Keep up the amazing work! ❤

I'm still a DSLR shooter and don't think I'll be switching anytime soon just because of how cheap it is now. Recently I've picked up a 400mm 2.8g from Nikon and man does it feel nice. These used to be a dream but now the price point is so accessible.

“Small” bag :D carrying around such big utilities must be a heavy duty. Thats passion 🎉
  • @RabbitOpera
thank you so much. I was waiting for this video.

I love hearing anything you want to talk about. I also love your pictures and videos, they are beautiful

Hi Roxy. 👋 You're using my latest set up for my bird photography.. the Nikon Z9 plus the new 180-600mm Nikon lens. 😊 A brilliant pairing! That's where my kit ends though...I always handhold, I don't need to narrate or film myself, so all your extras I do not require myself. I have been thinking of a tripod for video recording though. Thank you for the great vid! ❤
  • Everyone has great camera gear but your passion, drive, dedication, commitments, respect for Nature will definitely reward you .Yes,dream big and best of luck .Yash, Ecocare Foundation,USA.

Loved watching this! Wondering what you use to carry all that glass tho 🤔

Roxy, just found your channel and the first thing that brought a smile to my lips was that you pronounce "Nikon" the way it should be, kudos to you. SO many others have a funny pronunciation. They don't say Leeka or Leheeka when they talk about that german camera, do they? Will be watching more of your vlogs from now on.

I have the z9 with the z400 2.8. I made two trips to Alaska this summer and carried this combo on a peak design strap virtually everywhere I went and shot handheld photos, no video. I considered taking a lighter lens in my Brooks River walk in Katmai National Park but decided I paid too much not to use the lens (it is insured). It was a workout but is doable. For photos, I miss too many shots trying to use a tripod or even a monopod unless I am camped out in one spot. I am a 59 year old 5’7” female. I had to get a new bag when I got the lens. I use the Fstop Tilopa with the extra large ICU.
  • That's awesome, I too use the Peak Design Travel Tripod (with the universal head adapter and a video head). Mine is the aluminum one though, a bit cheaper than your carbon fiber version. It's such a great tripod!
  • @GeoffCooper
That's quite an endorsement for the Peak Design travel tripod that it is actually capable of supporting that fluid head and camera setup!!

I have a lot of the same gear including the z400 2.8 and 180-600. Might try to get on your next Africa trip and learn a thing or two

How come you deleted your previous 'what's in my bag' video about your old setup? Just looking for it as it would be a more affordable option for me starting out also super helpful to see where you started out! Love your videos x

Nice setup and kit. That 400mm is indeed a beast, as seen from the quality of your Lynx images in your last video. I am curious to know what you mean when you say you are signed as a Nikon creator though, is that your occupation? You always seem to be visiting many wonderful places, making these great vlogs. I can't imagine a better job to have, lol. Great video as always.

WOW!, I pretty much have the same equipment, with the exception of the Fluid Head and Wireless Mic (using the Komodo 5 and 7, along with the DJI Mic), I ordered the Z 400m 2.8 in April 2022, and the 180-600mm in July 2023 (still waiting for both lens to ship). The last time I was in Alaska was on a Cruise Ship in 2006, I found the Wildlife unbelievable! It is also where I learned about DSLR Camera's. At the time I had an HP Point in Shoot Pocket Camera, capable of shooting a max size of 640k images... Times have definitely changed :)

An impessive array of kit, but a bit of a job to lug it around, but we know what fantastic shots and recordings can be made.
