Chemically dipping a whole 1969 Mercury Cougar to remove all the paint and rust

Chemically stripping the paint and rust off this classic 1969 Mercury cougar convertible.

This was a pretty simple job. The paint wasn’t tough at all and there was barely any rust. You may notice the bracing where the doors were. We recommend structurally reinforcing all cars but especially convertibles. That way it ensures there is no flexing or warping.

  • You guys did a great job! The car is at the body shop now and we're getting ready to address those quarters. I'll make sure to share some photos when it's done!

Even after I haven't been an industrial painter for more than 10 years, I still find well prepared steel beautiful. Man, there was nothing like sand blasting mill scale off and watching that profile shape up. I would often draw shapes and then blast em smooth. You know.... For science

I had a 67 cougar when I was a kid. Had the 289ci engine. I got 2 speeding tickets and sold it! Loved the old headlights with vacuum powered covers!

Impressed that you guys installed the stay braces across the door openings to prevent the body distorting 👍🏻👍🏻

Great job restoring these timeless, priceless classics.
  • SWEET. Just brought back a memory from late ‘60s. I was still riding bicycles. Me and a friend rode our bikes to a row of garages where his older brother had a garage and was working on a car. Chevy is all I remember at that age. Well when we got there he had the paint and primer totally off the body. I didn’t know any better. Two days later we rode our bikes back over to the garage. Horror. The body had rust ALL OVER THE BODY. I can only imagine what he had to do next because we never went back to check. Ahh the good ol days. Thank You 🙏
  • Wow, you ain't joking, that chassis/unified body is really solidly clean, well done.

I had a '69 Torino dipped. It was such a time saver in the end that it probably saved 4x over the cost of the dip in my labor alone.
  • It's great there's services like this around. I wonder what it costs.

Absolutely great job, guys. Finally this Cougar will be in better condition than in 1969.
  • Thank you ! Watching these videos is so cathartic for me. For me, it doesn’t really matter the make of vehicle ( even though I’m a Ford guy) that is going into the tank, it just the process of “before an after” that does it for me. Great video, keep up the good work !
  • Awsome shots of the dipping process, especially under the dip which I never seen. 👍 great job.
  • Fantastic condition, one of the best american 60.s/70's cars I've seen dipped by you! Love the Acid-Cam as well!

This was excellent, amazing how it came out, I've seen blasting but I've never seen start to finish chemical stripping. Great stuff.
  • Your videos are awesome! You should do some follow up videos with the owners when the car is done, we would love to see those
  • I don't know why I find your videos so relaxing I'm really enjoying watching keep up the awesome work
