How good was Wesley Sneijder actually? #GOAT
New episode of a documentary series where I plan to present all the greatest players of all time and then give them a score so a ranking of the best players can be created. In this episode we take on Wesley Sneijder who played for Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Ajax and Galatasaray for most of his career, not only one of the greatest playmakers of all time but one of the greatest players of all time. See how Wesley Sneijder ranks and just how good he actually was.

That goal in the WC semi’s vs URU from Van Bronckhorst is one of my favorite goals of all time. It was a laser.

Made me very happy that you mentioned fairly about his time in Galatasaray and you did it from the perspective of a Galatasaray fan. Almost brought tears to my eyes. You are a great storyteller. As Galatasaray fans, we will always worship Sneijder. He was such a class player. I will always remember his name with the screams of the spectators. His 10 goals in a season was equal to another players 40 goals, because all of his goals were decisive. When all hope was lost Sneijder would appear out of nowhere and score a magical goal, and not against easy opponents, against world giants like juve and real madrid. On top of that he geniunly loved the fans.

Can never forget the guy..I scored my 1st FIFA freekick through him during the early days of PS3 n from there I sort of became a digital set piece specialist😁

If there’s one thing I have learned from this video it’s that Brazil has a sad sad recent history of flailing out of the World Cup in the most dramatically upsetting ways possible

When they didn't give him the ballon dor I started valuing it less, when they gave it to Modric (who by the way did less than Sneijder did in 2010) I finally understood it's a joke of an award

This guy was WORLD CLASS in his prime… I mean like Xavi like… he didn’t get the recognition he deserved..

I am dutch, born in 1997, at the 2010 WC i was 12 years old, you see I never seen cruijf, van basten, bergkamp play live, I only grew up with the stories of them and the videos on youtube. But let me tell you, as a Dutch guy growing up with this generation was a blessing. Sneijder and Robben are for me the 2 dutch goats( yes I know van basten, cruijf etc are better) but as a 12 year old footbal fan Robben and Sneijder just blew me away that WC.

Can you make a video on allan simonsen btw he won the ballon d'or, he was very underrated too
  • I'm not Dutch, but aside from my own country, I have always wanted the Netherlands to win just one major competition in the last 30 years. For such a small country to produce so many world class players is more than surprising, it's amazing. I look back at the semi final of Euro 2000 playing against a 10 man Italy side, missing a penalty and feeling like this was their best opportunity to win a major tournament. Others might say the 2010 world cup final, but tbh Spain were always going to win that game one way or another. But even with all this top class talent, there have been occasions where the Netherlands have failed to even qualify for some world cups and Euro's, which makes no sense at all. Balance is key, without VVD they just don't look like a team who can keep clean sheets. If's, but's and maybe's. If RVN had not have gotten injured, maybe they would have won Euro 2000? If VVD had not spent two thirds of the season out injured, they would have gone further in the Euro's. But anyway, the home of Trance and the home of total football, what a fantastic country. I pick watching a Netherlands match over any other nation (other than England) because I love watching them play. One country who you cannot say are boring to watch, are Holland. The best second half performance I have ever seen, was that demolition of Spain in the 2014 world cup. I'm yet to see anything more impressive than that.

I think you are downplaying the amount of work inter did to beat Barca. I am an inter fan and I remember the press conferences and the players positions. Mourinho changed so much of the gameplay so one of Cambiasso Zanetti or Motta keep an eye on Messi. Inter used Maicon to start their counter attack because he had explosive speed. Eto’o had defensive roles and the only one who didn’t come back on defense was Milito. It was not luck or a mistake from Barca. Inter was simply better. They were mastering defense football and defense wins championships.

Make one on Ribery as well Let's also talk about Ribery in 2013... And Ronaldo still getting the Balon D'Or

I don’t know if Zlatan’s time at Ajax was “underwhelming” he was in his early 20s at the time, having only played in Sweden before and managed to keep a 0.43 goal/game ratio.

I love how difficult it is for foreigners to pronounce Dutch words! Words like Utrecht seem to be impossible to pronounce correctly. Great video!

I remember at the time of 2008 till roughly 2016 just how many good long balls could be hurled forward seemingly out of nowhere, and just the pleasure of Sneijders passes were so incredibly deadly. It was truly a pleasure to follow the national squad with such a phenomenal midfield at the time.

Still one of my favourite players of all time. Sneijder, Robben and Requelme are the guys who made football beautiful in my eyes!
  • @merasmussen82
    - Was Sneijder better than Messi? - No. No he wasn't. Hope that clears things up.
