Long overdue but we're finally back with part 2 of our Q&A series. Sorry this took so long. Holidays and obligations and whatnot, but we're finally back to answer some more questions about myself and the hobby.

Edit: in the event that this video leaves my normal audience, this video is focused on pvc scale figures. articulated figures and resin/polystone statues are better about making male characters. Happy Sunday everyone. Hope you're having a good weekend. Alright so quick notes here. Part 2 was originally a bit longer, but I ended up removing some questions simply because I felt like I could answer them better if I had more time to think about it and write down my thoughts. It's very easy for me to miss some points I'd like to make when I go in blind essentially. Some off the top of my head were: Feelings of getting too old for the hobby, Younger collectors wanting to get into the hobby, How I got into xenoblade(legit this part was like 8 minutes on its own and killed the pacing lol) and my most sentinmental figure. I plan to talk about all of this and more at a later date when I find appropriate(and perhaps in seperate videos), so no worries there, but yeah not editing this video for like a month and coming back to it is bad for me because I know I'm just going to want to redo the whole thing lol. Even with some questions left in I wish I answered them a bit better, such as the lack of male figures. That's a huge topic to get into and I know I missed some details, but we can always revisit it another time. For now we must move on so I can hopefully get one more haul video out before December ends.

When it comes to male figures, while there are a decent amount like from Shonen series, the thing is they are still catered to the male gaze, or created with men in mind. The male figures are cool, the female figures are often done sexy or provocative,; they're made with male buyers in mind. I think that's the difference. There are way more figures made for male audiences, even when they are male figures. It's super rare to have male figures done with a female gaze in mind. I think I could count on one hand just how many are. (And that doesn't count Shonen male figures that women figure collectors personally find attractive). I think that's an important distinction to make with male figures in this hobby.

We could see more male figures from fate, genshin, fire emblem, honkai etc. Especially with Loid we saw how companies treat male characters. Many price figures, but only 1 or 2 scales. Such a waste that GSC never made one... Would also like a Sora to go with the many Shiro's.

The fact that many lead male protagonists get shafted over the female side characters on getting figures is just criminal. I'm also upset at the fact that a psycho villain that only showed up in 2 or 3 episodes of Overlord gets a figure while the important male characters get none.
  • Really good video! I really hope that one day we will also have a great amount of male figures, I think that a lot of collectors would be willing to buy them

Wow thanks for going so in depth with my question! I agree with all you said unfortunately and I wish manufacturers would at least go a bit out on a limb. I collect both female and male figures and I see in comments when I post them on Reddit is people wishing for more, so I know there is totally a market for them, it’s just been untapped. I personally really want a Subaru scale from Re Zero to go with my Emilia haha. It just feels like a gap in characters, especially with male romance anime leads when only the girl gets figures. And I also know some great artists that do male oc’s that would look great as figures but unfortunately manufacturers don’t look that way 😔

I'm so happy you answered my questions! I didn't expect them to end up in a video for some reason☺️🥰 Awesome video as always! Can't wait for the next one❤
  • Yeah you got a point. There's less male scaled figures unless it is an One Piece figures. I'm a collector of male figures like Free!, Durara, Fate series and etc, and some of them cost a lot and rare. But when you saw them on your display cab they look awesome.

hopefully the figure market becomes more varied with its male figures. I know the male bunnies that are out rn are super popular & expensive. I myself snatched the new Hitsugaya ( he's got abs and ice c'mon TvT) edit: also biting the bullet in the new year and buying my grail Shinya Kogami & Levi Ackerman Birthday figure ;)

It’s funny. I think as figure collectors we all sort of naturally have or obtain a curiosity about photography. I myself have been browsing lately for cheap soft lighting, all to gradually level up my anime figure photography without having to buy a dedicated camera. I would like to continue using my iPhone camera. I am also finding myself enjoying writing up little reviews upon receiving my figures. Hobbies beget other hobbies I guess! Perhaps it is also ego, wanting to contribute art and opinions the more involved you are with a hobby
  • Love these Q&A series. Maybe you can make a vid about all the different manufacturers like you mentioned in this vid?
  • 17:53 Oh my God I love that figure, it’s so cool. I just bought the first 2 volumes of the manga after you talked about it recently. Hopefully I’ll get to read it soon, I’ve got so much manga to get through.
  • @cosplaydevotee
Great video as always! I would also appreciate more male figures, but sadly it seems that isn't the popular vote. At the end of the day, the companies are going to want to make a profit as you pointed out 🤷‍♀️.
  • @TheFlauschig
Arknights does have a lot of male characters. Some meta characters are even male, so there isn't really any excuse to (to this day) just make Silverash into a scale figure.
  • @ladyorlean3550
Shampoo's one of my favorite female Anime characters of all time, so I hope we'll get a figure of her or more Ranma 1/2 merch in general. Maybe a remake like Urusei Yatsura could happen. Love to see it for sure!
  • @El_Ace
great video! uhh... I don't have much else to say, but I really like these videos about figures or just figure adjacent commentary about them.
  • @nyapan7620
I really like your videos! They're very chill and you try to understand other people's preferences. Now onto the male figure issue which concerns me since that's what I collect the most. As somebody who has been playing FGO for almost 6 years, I've always been bothered by people saying that it gets a ton of figures even to this day. First off, the releases have been getting fewer and fewer over the years, especially for the nendoroids where it's really noticeable. And secondly, there have never been enough male figures compared to the popularity of the characters. Combine the two and you have more recent (4 years ago at most for an 8 year old game) really popular male characters like Ashiya Douman, Saito Hajime, Mandricardo who have really low chances of ever getting anything. They even have garage kits so the demand is there but for some reason they won't capitalize on it. So no, as somebody who's into FGO I've never been satisfied with the figure releases and it's only going to get worse. Thankfully one of my favorite franchises has been saving me figure-wise and that is Yu-Gi-Oh! Amakuni has blessed us with high-quality scale figures for a variety of anime characters, not just the ones from Duel Monsters! Other companies have also been making a ton of monsters but since I don't play the card game I don't care about those. I was so happy when they announced Yuuma and Astral because I never thought they would get anything. The next character I want them to make is Jack Atlas, that would be really cool! Finally going onto the shonen figures, I want to talk specifically about One Piece. I got into the series last year and I was thinking that I finally loved a series with a lot of figure choices but it turns out that that wasn't really the case. My two favorite characters from the series are Jinbe and Robin and I'm going to be honest and say that I don't like most of their figures. I don't really know why but they always mess up with them for me. For Jinbe, the only figure of his that I like is the Portrait of Pirates Maximum one with horrendous aftermarket prices (1000$ ouch) because all the other ones don't have enough shading and look like toys. As for Robin, most of her figures are too sexualized for me. Sure, One Piece has a bit of fanservice but with the figures they make you would think it's an ecchi show. Sorry for the long comment and keep up the good work!

Awesome video! My question was if you're ever worried about age in collecting, I began getting a little stressed as I get closer to thirties.
