  • I tell my visitors to San Francisco that the Sutro tower was the box that the Pyramid building came in.....yes, Herb Caen said that many moons ago not my line.

It’s been some 30+ years, but I still miss see ST’s friendly being-ness on the hill out my window every day.

My biggest problem other than eyesore is that it generates so much electronic signal interferences that my HiFi system always picks up noises, no matter what kind of signal blocking devises that I put in, the whole house’s wiring was affected. Eventually I moved away from the Sunset District and now I can enjoy my music.

I used to get channels 2,4,5,7,9,11, and a pile of uhf stations with my HD rabbit ears hooked into my EYE TV on my Imac. When they were done with the tower, I got 5,9, and some uhf. I finally stopped watching TV completely about 14 years ago. Last thing I was able to record on my EYE TV was a classic Victoria Secret show. And it was. Bing, Bing, Bing Bing....
  • “ of Course it will Fall, you just need to give it a Little more Time ~ When I first moved here ~ I thought I could use it like a land mark ~ but you can see that freakin thing from San Jose, :body-blue-raised-arms:
  • I lived near Loma Prieta, 1 mile from the 1640 ft tall KSBW tower.. Tallest point in the SF bay area. 4200+ ft higher than Mt Hamilton. Not as ugly as Sutro.
  • For those that hate it, I find people are always against change (NIMBYs) And anything new has some positivity, over time.
  • To be honest probably saw it before in my lifetime never ever did it stand out in my mind and still doesn't
  • People hated Transamerica Pyramid in the 70's too. Now it has become an icon.

As a previous SF resident (58-74) I still find this tower an eyesore monstrosity. I’m assuming there are not many left in the bay area who remember how the skyline looked without the tower. 🙋🏼

No... It's still an awful eyesore. Time does not magically make it better.
  • Can we tear it down and make it into a sky scraper with views ?
