Today's video is one that I've been working on for a while because I've been living it. We are told constantly to set goals and get to work, but what if there's more to life than ticking off goals in a straight line?

This is my story. It's not linear and it doesn't make sense yet, but I made a video about it anyways.

To the unknown!

I think you would have loved to grow up in the ‘50’s. You describe how I remember my childhood to be, and I’m so grateful that I was able to live it. There were three girls and one boy in our family. My youngest sister is mentally challenged which contributed in limiting our resources because of her health needs. (Us kids didn’t know that though.)All three girls were in one bedroom and shared one closet. We got one pair of shoes per school year. We didn’t have much in the way of material stuff. If we wanted something and couldn’t afford it, we’d use our imaginations and made it. I remember making a skateboard out of a piece of wood and taking roller skates apart to use the wheels. It worked! As young teens, we would meet up with our cousins on our bikes and ride for miles and miles, stopping at our grandma’s house to have a picnic lunch by the stream. My best memory was to take Snoopy, my dachshund, on long walks to the neighborhood park and walk along the path by the stream feeling completely safe with only Snoopy with me. The world was much smaller to us and less intrusive. We got a TV, but it broke, and my parents let it sit for a long time before fixing it. We didn’t really miss it because we would rather be playing outside. We felt rich. Anyway, I think you are so smart in how you are living your lives. I really appreciate your videos bringing back all of the good memories. I’m 70 now and am on a mission to rid myself of all of the excess stuff that means nothing to me any more, and I am questioning if it ever did really mean anything. I want to live light now. God bless you and your beautiful family!

Wise words. It made me think of this quote. “To live for some future goal is shallow. It’s the sides of the mountain that sustain life, not the top.” - Robert M. Pirsig

Oh Madi I feel this. I’ll be 38 in a few days and everything I have done has been slower. Married later, had kids later. And all along the way the world and culture told me to speed up, that I was missing out, lacking in someway. God on the other hand was always telling me I was in His time and to trust Him. He has been faithful in my obedience even when it hasn’t followed a conventional path. I love your heart so much. ❤️❤️

I think social media has ruined a lot of "ideal" and realistic for most people.
  • I feel like moving to hawaii is a dream to me as well- can you make an in-depth reason why you wanted to move back? Cost living in hawaii, etc I think that would be super helpful
  • At 52, I can say that everything you've said is true. I've come to learn that when the Lord puts a call/goal upon your heart, it's never about the destination, and always about the process. And even when you shift gears, that does not negate the original calling. I think sometimes we are so quick to outline the hand of God when we feel him nudging us somewhere. There are a few times in my life where God needed me to get to point B for point B's sake, but the majority of life is just about engaging him in the process, even when there is no point B....actually, especially when there is no point B.
  • This made me emotional. We've done the move from Tennessee to Kauai back to Tennessee twice now. Currently in Tennessee longing for Kauai again yet needing to learn to live the life I truly want while in Tennessee. 💓

I love that you are genuine and honest. That is rare in our culture, and it is so refreshing. ❤

You need to find your Joy in the moments now not yesterday or tomorrow but live each day you are given we are not promised tomorrow shouldn’t live in the past but live today at the best of your ability
  • My favorite yet ❤️ its been amazing to watch your journey from a cozy home, to Hawaii, to California. Cannot wait to see what is next for your family. You're an inspiration. My husband and I are also at one of the biggest turns of our entire lives. We have no idea what our future holds, but God does.

Thanks for sharing I totally agree with you! Sometimes we get distracted with things that don’t really matter in life.
  • Hi Madi! Newer to your channel and love hearing your thoughts on minimalism, slow living and mom life. Been a minimalist for years but adapting to new mom life with my 8 month old daughter :) seeing you maintain a simple life with young ones is very inspiring to me 💜 thanks for showing that it can be done. Good luck settling into your new space and rhythm :) love from MI

Ah love this, and so reassuring to hear as well. I live nowhere near the ocean, so it's a nice reminder that you can hold the same values regardless of the geography.
  • Thank you again for saying what I only dear to think💛please keep sharing your minimal mindset
  • This was a beautiful insightful. Thank you for being you and sharing
  • Thank you for this video! We are definitely into the unknown right now, however I have been finding it stressful haha thanks for showing a different perspective and showing us that location isn't everything (because that's what we've been focusing on lately)
