Mid-magnification riflescopes can be the perfect solution for most of your hunting and shooting needs. Less specialized and ideal for general use, sometimes the best tool for the job is the one that does everything ok. Versatility is the name of the game with mid-magnification riflescopes. Listen as we discuss the merit of these workhorse configurations.

I installed this optic on a crossman 760 air rifle.I have now shot the riffle around 500 times during target/plinking practice, and the youtube.com/post/Ugkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W… scope has done well. With this optic, I have neutralized around 30 pigeons that were invading one of my buildings. For my short range air rifle, I will continue to use this scope, but will be upgrading to a more powerful scope, when I buy a more powerful air rifle, in order to shoot at longer distance. For the money I have spent, this scope has truly been a great buy.
  • Crazy thing is midrange power was high power in days of old. When I first clicked on the video I was expecting a conversation about the 2-10 line with the 1-10 sprinkled in there. Interesting topic and video nonetheless.
  • It's not that he's cheating on you, it's that he's not that in to you, and has decided to see other people. You're free to do the same. Trust me, he's doing you a favor. Move on. It was fun while it lasted.

I used to be all about the high mag scopes but have started to lean towards mid mag scopes for hunting now I think 2-12 or 3-15 are probably the best mag ranges you could put on a hunting rifle weather you hunt in the timber or out west.

I love mid range scopes! My Viper HST 4-16x44 delivers a perfect image from 30 to 1000 yards!
  • Hunters in the eastern part of the country are looking for a scope that tops out at no more than 10 or 12 and has a low end below 3x. Ideal would be a 1-10x44HD in ffp with a workable reticle and an illuminated floating aiming point inside the crosshairs. The large objective for the bigger eyebox and to bring light in, lower power for snap, offhand shots...and make it light please.

I know it's at the lower end of mid-magnification, but I think a 2-12 is probably some of the best bang for your buck, as well as the best use for it's size and weight.

Got to look through this optic yesterday. Was absolutely blown away with the glass quality and field of view. I'll hopefully have this on a hunting rifle by the time the fall comes around.
  • Really enjoyed this talk. As someone who hunts deer and coyotes in the east, I couldn’t be happier with my Viper HS 2.5-10. I have killed coyotes at 50 yards and and 250, and deer 25-125. Everything I could need for everything I do.

I put the 5-25 on my delta 5 pro 18in 6.5 creedmoor I always use it around 18 to 22 around 200 yards I just like how clear I can see the impact on steal targets center headshots so fun I Dnt dial in I just hold over I’m used to the acog so it’s fun for me
  • Any chance the Razor LHT line will be updated soon with that reticle? IMHO, a Razor LHT 2-10 FFP with that reticle would be optics perfection. Leupold just updated their MK5HD line with a 2-10 and its amazing. A response from Vortex would be great to see. Love the podcast. I listen every Saturday while driving to the desert to shoot.

I was part of a scout platoon in Ramadi 05 and 06. An aimpoint on a 14.5 inch m4 was fine out to 200 meters. Longer engagements were handled with machineguns, artillery, and snipers. Edit: our snipers used fixed 10x power leupolds.
  • This is a awesome video!! I have the exact same rifel and I bought the exact same hand gard!!! I'm where you were before all the work you did to it!!!! Lol could you please make another video showing how you got the hand gard to fit and how everything came apart and went back together!!! Thanks man good stuff!!!

Mate I just bought my 3-18x44 strike eagle, picking it up soon from the local gun shop. Can't wait to kick arse with this thing.
  • @tyclayton9931
I love my Strike Eagle 3x18. Dials are tactile, glass great, most notably the retical on the FFP is nearly as fine as some extremely high-end scopes.
  • I emailed Vortex about the possibility of a compact 3-18-ish scope, something in the profile of the Eotech Vudu 5-25. I have to work around a 10" handguard, and if I throw a 12-14" scope on that I run out of rail space quick, and the 5-25 is just too much glass imo. Im all in on the medium optics, they arent a replacement for higher magnification glass if its needed, but I'm only using a 5.56, my concern is just being able to positively ID whatever I'm shooting at and doing accurate ranging.

Just got the strike eagle 3-18x44 amd honestly the glass and parallax is phenomenal...cannot tell the difference between it and my razors. I'm truly shocked as to the quality of glass on the new 3-18x44 34mm strike eagle!! Bravo vortex

I’ve got a viper hs 4-16x50 on my Tikka hunting/sniper rifle and it’s perfect!

Would love to see an episode on precision pistols- TC Contenders and XP100. Little interest nowadays but very cool guns.
  • I would love to see a 2.5-10x44 or 3-12x44 FFP using a VMR1 style recticle maybe with 1/4 MOA/MRAD graduations in the Diamondback Tactical range, it would be a great hunting scope for most people. I believe that field of view is very important in hunting over high magnification.
