4 examples on how to get our inspiration started, and how you can pull good ideas out of your head and turn them into reality.

Abstract painting is demanding but rewarding and developing for the mind. See how you can be proactive about getting ideas and do many things to find them and start your inspiration.
Ideas for abstract paintings can be found everywhere around us. Just open your eyes and look for them.

Painting abstract paintings is - in my opinion - a little more demanding mentally, than painting figurative paintings, because you don't have anything concrete to work from. What to paint on the canvas must mainly be found inside your head.

In this video I explain my process in four of my paintings and show you how I got the inspiration and ideas to paint them. There are many ways to find inspiration, and this does not only apply to paintings. Sometimes, you are lucky and get an idea as a gift , but mostly you have to work hard to conceive your ideas.

Finally, it's not over now that you have the idea, you still need to get it out through your arm and brush before it can be used for anything.

As an 84 year old artist still paints every day, I never expected to see such inspirational artworks as yours. I appreciate the way you combine abstraction with thought and intention - not just a lot of colours daubed or poured haphazardly. Bravo! Please share more of your art and techniques

Thank you from an old man in Malaysia. I am 71 years old. Indeed, walking in the forest do give me inspiration.
  • The way you put the various colors on the wet canvas when you start the first stage of your painting to me, is perfect. In my mind, although not in yours, the painting is complete and does not require any further work or refinement.

My Mom told me "getting old is not for Wimps. Now I'm old and that saying makes so much sense.

Wow is right! I've watched many, many varied artist videos for as long as they've been available on the internet. You are one of the most inspirational and helpful one I've encountered. I love your vision, process and execution. You're really talented and helpful by showing us how you use your materials (rather than assume we all know how it's done) and the names of the colours. I love the ephemeral taste of your paintings in their raw beginnings, and equally enjoy them completed. Thank you for your generosity in sharing!
  • Love your no-nonsense approach to abstracting ideas running through the mind. One advantage of old age we have no time for nonsense.

Thanks for the information and the inspiration. From a 77-year-old artist still working in my studio. Love your work. Kind regards, Ken.

Having spent most of my life uninspired by abstract painting, after finding your channel i am inspired by both your painting and yourself. Thankyou, I intend to try my hand at my first abstract painting today.x
  • Hello, I have learned so much from your videos. You are so generous sharing your knowledge and experience. You've been a great help in getting me unstuck and painting again, this time with much more joy!

Thanks for your ideas and insights. It's true--inspiration is all around us. I appreciate how you describe not just painting the subject, but the subjective experience. Old people of the world, unite! It is a privilege not shared by most of the human race, sadly. Learning new skills--such as painting--as we age keeps us young!

Abstraction is such a beautiful tool to express nature! I love painting trees with "clothing." I add non tree colors, shapes, textures, and loose brushwork to dress them. They always remind me of people. Wondrous work, Thank you for sharing ❤

I’m really enjoying your paintings and technique, inspiration! I, at times, also feel like an old woman and you inspire me to get out and see, experience the places and events I want to and not worry about age… thank you!

When I realized I had to pick a career, and not just find jobs, I evaluated my skills and talents: very verbal and small artist ability. I went to law school, instead of art school, and had a nice career. Now retired, I am working to retrieve my painting skills. I don't know how old the Old Guy is, but am likely older. I really am learning so much from him. Thank you, Mr. Old Guy.

Thank you for sharing your painting process, it’s lovely
  • thank you from a 77 year old female artist in Germany! I am a self taught painter from childhood on. My style has gone from kind of realistic to expressionistic with water colours with much success. However, now in my old days living in Greece I have started 7 years ago contemporary Fuid Acrylic Art, which pleases me a lot since the outcome is never predictable . I have seen your paintings for the first time and I must say I am thrilled. The way you transform the original view of nature into a vibrant piece of Art is just amazing. I hope I can learn from you. Thank you so much for the inspiration.
